Plot[]

When Luan is cast as the lead role and detective in her school play, she ends up having to solve a real case when a mystery unfolds.

Synopsis[]

At the high school, the Drama Club is anticipating the moment when Mrs. Bernardo will reveal the cast of their latest play, The Case of the Missing Corgi. Moments later, Mrs. Bernardo puts up the list, and as the students rush to see what roles they landed, Luan is happy to learn that she got the lead role of Agatha Mystery, to which Mrs. Bernardo says that she deserved it for embodying the qualities of a detective. The other roles include Amy being Agatha's sidekick, Gertrude, Benny being the titular corgi, and Shannon as a mulberry bush.

Luan takes on a real mystery.

Later, at the Royal Woods Auditorium, the Drama Club is currently rehearsing for the play. During one rehearsal, a sandbag suddenly falls on Amy's floor marker, nearly crushing her. Quickly inspecting the sandbag, Luan notices that the rope holding it has been cut, and that someone left behind a pair of scissors, and therefore deduces that this wasn't an accident. Realizing they have a real mystery to deal with now, Luan decides to get to the bottom of it, with Amy and Benny tagging along to help her.

Soon, Luan, Amy and Benny begin to search for potential suspects.

  • First, Amy suggests that it could be the middle school janitor, Ed, as she has a habit of getting his suspenders dirty, and that he could be trying to get back at her for all the instances that it happened. However, Luan deduces that Ed couldn't have been responsible, saying that his car keys are still present, but his cleaning equipment isn't, suggesting that he was dealing with an emergency.
  • Second, Amy suggests that it could be Shannon, as Shannon was tired of being cast as the mulberry bush, and that she plotted to get Amy hurt so she could take over as Gertrude. However, Luan deduces that Shannon couldn't have done it because her costume doesn't have any arm holes, thus preventing her from using her hands to use the scissors.
  • Last, Amy suggests that it could be Lyberti, as she used to date Rex, and thinks that ever Amy started dating him, Lyberti is trying to get revenge on her. However, Luan deduces that Lyberti didn't do it because, considering that she started dating someone else, she has no intention to sabotage Amy.

With no more suspects to interrogate, Luan, Amy and Benny arrive back to the auditorium to tell Mrs. Bernardo that the trail went cold. Suddenly, Rex arrives to pick up Amy, and when he extends his hand, Amy realizes that he has a red mark on his hand that resembles rope burn. When Rex makes the excuse that he scraped his hands in pottery class, Amy reveals that the middle school doesn't have a pottery class and deduces that Rex was the one who cut the rope. Caught red-handed, Rex admits his misdeed, saying he only did it to scare Amy into the quitting the play so she could spend more time with him. As a result, Amy breaks up with Rex, and Mrs. Bernardo, impressed with Amy's detective skills, decides to give Amy the lead role instead of Luan. Disheartened by this announcement and thinking that Amy really is a better detective than her, Luan sadly agrees to forfeit the role.

Later, the Drama Club is back to rehearsing for the play, now with Amy playing Agatha and Luan playing Gertrude. During the rehearsal, Luan notices that the marker the sandbag fell on has a purple streak. Suspicious, Luan tells Benny that there's something fishy going on, and that she needs his help. Later, Luan and Benny proceed to go around the school to collect evidence. First, they have Rex sign for a package, where Luan observes Rex using his right hand to sign. Second, while observing Amy's makeup table, Luan notices a discarded palette of red stage makeup. Lastly, they place a bouquet of flowers on the table, and when Amy reads the card attached, she quickly runs out of the school to embrace Rex. With all the pieces of the puzzle together, Luan realizes what really happened.

Later that night, the Drama Club is ready to put on the first performance of The Case of the Missing Corgi. Just seconds after Mrs. Bernardo starts the play, Luan goes rogue to reveal that Amy was the one who set up the entire mystery all for the purpose of obtaining the lead role. At first, Amy denies this, but then Luan reveals the truth.

  • First, she points out that Gertrude's stage marker had a purple streak, and it's the same color as Amy's nail polish.
  • Second, she points out that the scissors used to cut the rope is for a lefty, and that Amy is a lefty (as proven when she throws an umbrella at Amy, and she catches it with her left hand).
  • Third, she reveals that the "rope burn" mark on Rex's hand was made using the stage makeup she found at Amy's makeup table, and that it was on his right hand.
  • Lastly, she reveals that Amy and Rex were working together: their "breakup" was entirely staged, and the tag on the bouquet of flowers she and Benny left for her read "Heart your loving boyfriend", and the first thing she did was embrace Rex, confirming that they never broke up at all (fueled by the fact that Rex is in the audience cheering for his girlfriend).
S7E15A I'm gonna drop out of the play

Amy's ruse is discovered.

No longer able to deny the accusations anymore, Amy finally confesses to her misdeed, saying that she wanted Mrs. Bernardo to see her as a good detective and resorted to sabotaging Luan to prove it. Immensely disappointed by Amy's actions, Mrs. Bernardo proceeds to give the role of Agatha back to Luan, causing the audience, who think this is all part of the play, to start cheering and then leave (much to Mrs. Bernardo's dismay). Amy apologizes to Luan for all the harm she caused and decides to drop out the play, but Luan, who accepts her apology, says that she has an idea.

Sometime later, another showing of The Case of the Missing Corgi is about to start, now with Luan back in the lead role as Agatha. Suddenly, it is revealed that Shannon is now playing the role of Gertrude, while Amy is demoted to playing the mulberry bush.
