[Royal Woods High School. Inside, Drama Club is waiting for Mrs. Bernardo, with Benny and Rex sitting down in front of lockers while Spencer stands up. Luan is talking to Amy, and Shannon put one foot next to the door] Luan: "Oh, where is Mrs. Bernardo? The cast list for The Case of the Missing Corgi should be up by now." Amy: "I can't wait to find out who gets to play the lead: Detective Agatha Mystery." [everyone stands up when hearing about what Amy said and smile.] Mrs. Bernardo:[appears] "Fellow thespians, it is I! Now, without further ado, [lights come on and a spotlight focuses on her; gets out a pen] the cast list!" [chuckles while throwing the pen, which spins and lands on the bulletin board, which flips over to show the cast list. Drama Club gasp with delight, then run to the list but don't see the cleaner Ed, who is cleaning the lockers with a fresh coat of paint. He sees Drama Club running quickly and tries to protect his paint pot and stool. He did it, but Amy runs past, thus some of the paint lands on Ed's dungarees while the rest gets spilled] Amy:[comes back] "Sorry, Ed!" [goes back to the board] Ed:[annoyed] "Oh! This is my favorite suede uniform! Oh!" [Drama Club collide with each other upon reaching the board. They then reach to a stop with many people on top of each other. Luan gets up and sees the list] Luan:[happy] "Oh my gosh! I'm Agatha Mystery!" [All of Drama Club were fumid and Shannon pushes Luan so everyone else can see the list. Luan rolls over to Mrs. Bernardo, who stops her from rolling on too much.] Mrs. Bernardo: "Congratulations, Luan! Not only did you have the best audition, but you already embodied the qualities of a real detective! Why, just last week you solved the mystery of my missing lunch bag. When you smelled egg salad, you cleverly deduced that I was sitting on it! [smiles cheekily] Luan: "Aww, gee, thanks Mrs. B. I won't let you down!" Shannon:[to Luan] "Aww, I wanted to be Gertrude. Why do I always get cast as the Mulberry bush?" Mrs. Bernardo: "Not just any Mulberry bush." [Luan and Shannon are surprised] "The lead Mulberry bush!" [Shannon is not pleased. The other members are still at the cast list] Benny: "Cool. I'm the corgi." Amy: "Looks like I'm Gertrude, [nudges Luan's elbow] Agatha's fateful sidekick!" [pulls Luan closer to her] "With the two of us on the case, we won't miss anything."
[Next Day at the Auditorium, Luan, Amy and Spencer are in their costumes with the play decorated as Agatha Mystery's office. Mrs. Bernardo and Rex are watching from the audience] Mrs. Bernardo:The Case of the Missing Corgi. Act 1, Scene 1." [claps her hands once] "And action." Rex: "Whoo!" [Mrs. Bernardo sees Rex cheering for Amy] "Break a leg, Amy, baby!" [Amy giggles, and Mrs. Bernardo glares at him. Rex clears his throat and sits back down] Spencer:[holding a piece of paper with its back turned; wearing a green leprechaun hat and a royal outfit; acting] "Good evening, detective. I'm here on behalf of the queen. Humbler the Corgi has gone missing." [shows the paper to Luan. It is a picture of a corgi with the word "Missing" above] Luan:[in a British accent] "Sounds like quite the conundrum." Amy:[also in a British accent] "Blimey, sir. Have you checked the royal dog park?" Luan: "Don't be ridiculous, Gertrude." [Spencer leaves] "No dog thee worthy assault, would hide a canine in a dog park." Amy: "Aye, milady. That's why they pay you the big pound." [A sandbag then drops on the cross that is next to Amy, who holds her foot in pain] Mrs. Bernardo:[walks onstage] "Cut!" Rex:[runs onstage to check on Amy] "Amykins, are you okay?" Amy:[touched that Rex is here] "I think so. Ooh, it's just my toe." [gets up] "That sandbag came out of nowhere." [Rex takes a closer look at the bag] Rex: "That's weird, the rope's been cut." [Luan is suspicious and looks up] Luan:[gasps] "And look, up in the rafters. Someone left behind scissors. I'm beginning to suspect that this was no accident at all." [Amy and Rex gasp, followed by Mrs. Bernardo] Amy: "I do have my share of nemeses." Mrs. Bernardo: "Well, then it looks like we have a real-life mystery on our hands. And, Luan, with your natural detective skills, you're the perfect person to solve it." Luan: "Don't worry. I'm on the case." Amy: "I'll help." [Just then, Benny barks and crawls up to everyone] Luan: "Uh, Benny?" Benny: "Just staying in character." [Laughs sheepishly] Luan:[to Amy] "Off to investigate your first nemesis."
[Later, Luan, Amy and Benny approach the janitor's closet] Amy: "Ed the janitor's had it out for me since I knocked paint on his suede coveralls." [The three look into the dark room] Luan: "Huh, it looks like he's not here." [They enter] Amy: "Hm, suspicious. Maybe he's on the lam." Luan: "Mm, unlikely. His car keys are still here. But his galoshes and squeegee aren't. I suspect he had a janitorial emergency." [Suddenly they hear a man roaring and see the silhouette of someone with the angry eyes and frazzled hair of a crazy person. The teens scream. Then the figure flips the light on, revealing himself to just be Ed, covered in food scraps] Ed:[actually in a rather pleasant mood] "Woah." [chuckles] "Didn't mean to scare you kids. Spent the last three hours cleaning the cafeteria. Category five food fight. And of course, today I had to wear my crushed velvet coveralls." [sighs] Luan: "Let's go, team. Ed here has been through enough today already. On to the next suspect."
[Next they are shining a light in the nervous face of the lead mulberry bush] Amy: "Come on, fess up." Shannon: "Uh, I didn't cut the rope! Yeah, I was backstage, but I was… I was getting into costume for the park scene." Amy: "A costume you hate because you really wanted to be Gertrude, which is why you sabotaged me." Luan: "Nah, it's plausible, Amy, but wrong. You see, she couldn't have used the scissors because her costume has no arm holes." Benny: "Good eye, Luan." [remembers his character] "I mean… Bark!" [Luan is getting a little annoyed with Benny] Amy: Well, I guess that leaves one last suspect."
[In the hallway, Lyberti is innocently walking along, minding her own business, not even noticing as her friends pop out of a locker] Amy: "Lyberti is Rex's ex. And she was totally jelly when Rex and I made it "ofish." [They see Lyberti open her locker and put on a rather large letterman jacket] Luan: "That may be true, but on closer inspection, you'd see that Lyberti is wearing an oversized wrestling jacket, most likely given to her by her new boyfriend." [But just then, said boyfriend puts an arm around Lyberti and escorts her away, which she enjoys] "Clearly, she had no reason to be jealous or sabotage you. Lyberti didn't do this." [Amy is getting annoyed]
[Later, they are back at the theater with Mrs. Bernardo] Mrs. Bernardo: "So, Luan, our brilliant detective, did you crack the case yet?" Luan: "The trail went a little cold. But don't worry, I'm gonna figure it out." Rex:[offscreen] "Hey, Amy." [runs up] "Ready to go? Let me take your bag." [extends his hand, which, oddly, has a red mark on it] Amy: "Rex, what happened to your hand? It looks like… rope burns?" [takes a closer look but Rex pulls it away] Rex:[nervously] "What? No. I… I uh, scraped my hands in pottery class." Amy: "Our school doesn't offer pottery. Wait a minute. You cut the rope!" [Mrs. Bernardo gasps, followed by Benny, then followed by Luan] Mrs. Bernardo: "What a twist!" Rex:[Amy giving him the cold shoulder] "I'm sorry, Amy. but ever since you got cast as Gertrude, you haven't had any time to hang out with me. I just thought if I scared you, you'd quit the play." Amy: "Super selfish, Rex. you and I are through." Rex:[tears up and leaves blubbering] Oh, no!" Mrs. Bernardo: "Well done, Amy! I had no idea you had such stellar investigative skills. In fact, change of plans, I want you to be our new Agatha. You'll bring such authenticity to the role. Luan, you're Gertrude." [Luan is disheartened by this] Amy: "I can't take Luan's part." Luan:[takes her hat off] "Uh, yes you can. You deserve it." [puts the hat on Amy] "You're clearly the better detective." [Amy is suddenly okay with this as Luan leaves]
[At the next rehearsal] Mrs. Bernardo: "Okay, everybody, find your mark. Act one, scene one, and action!" [They are rehearsing the scene from before, only this time Amy is Agatha, her photo taped over Luan's, and Luan is Gertrude] Spencer:[doing what he did last time] "Good evening, detective. I'm here on behalf of the queen. I'm afraid her beloved corgi has gone missing!" [Suddenly, Luan notices something on the floor. All of the tape markers on the floor are clean, except hers, which has a purple streak on it] Amy: "Sounds like quite the conundrum." [Luan then looks straight up to where the sandbag fell from, right above Gertrude's marker, Amy notices Luan's not paying attention] Luan:[to herself] "Huh, that's weird." Mrs. Bernardo: "Luan. Luan!" [Luan winces and Mrs. Bernardo actually looks a little miffed at her] "Cut! Luan, you missed your cue. Agh, let's take five everyone." Amy: "You okay, Luan?" Luan: "Oh, yeah. Uh, just, uh, forgot my line. Better go check my script." [dashes backstage to where her boyfriend has somehow learned to scratch his ear with his foot] "Benny, something fishy is going on. I have a theory but I need to test it out." Benny: "Great, I'll help. I just need a quick bathroom break." [Luan approves] "Meet me out by the fire hydrant in five." [Heads off, leaving Luan speechless and slightly shocked]
[In the cafeteria, Rex is sitting alone, eating a sandwich, and looks quite happy for someone who was just recently dumped] Benny:[dressed as a delivery guy approaches Rex; in a lower voice] "Special delivery for Rex just sign here." [Even though mail isn't typically delivered to someone in a school cafeteria, Rex signs for the package, not noticing the delivery guy's mustache falling off, which Benny fixes. Meanwhile Luan is observing from the table behind them] Luan:[notices something about Rex] "He's right-handed. Interesting."
[Later, Luan is using a magnifying glass to search around one of the makeup tables in the auditorium and notices something in the trash. She pulls out a makeup palette, which is in perfectly fine condition despite having been in the garbage] Luan:[reading the label] "Red stage makeup. Even more interesting." [puts it back] "Benny! The flowers!" [Benny runs up with a bouquet of roses in a vase with a small note attached. Luan then gasps] "She's coming, quick hide." [Luan and Benny get behind a rack of costumes as Amy skips up, humming, to what is apparently her makeup table. She takes notice of the flowers left on the table and looks at the card. She gasps, squeals in delight and scampers away, giggling] Luan: "Come on, boy, let's give chase." [they go after Amy. Meanwhile, outside, Rex is casually leaning against a tree on his phone, when he sees Amy running toward him smiling. Even though they broke up, Amy runs up and throws her arms around Rex, who happily embraces her right back. What they don't know is Luan and Benny are watching from behind a mulberry bush] Luan: "Aha! Just as I suspected. Benny, I know what really happened with Amy's" [air quotes] "little accident. And I can prove it. Thanks for the cover Shannon." [Luan and Benny take off, while the mulberry bush turns around, it actually is Shannon] Shannon:[still hates being a bush] "Ugh. Glad this costume's good for something."
[It's opening night for 'The Case of the Missing Corgi', people enter the auditorium. On stage, Mrs. Bernardo is introducing the play] Mrs. Bernardo: "Welcome, everyone. Sit back and enjoy as we present to you 'The Case of the Missing Corgi'." [The curtain goes up and Mrs. Bernardo leaves the stage. Amy is still playing Agatha, but Luan is nowhere in sight. Spencer comes up, playing his role] Spencer: "Good evening, detective. I'm here on behalf of the queen. Her beloved corgi has gone missing!" Amy:[thinking the play will go on as expected] "Sounds like quite the conundrum." Luan: "Actually, Amy," [Amy turns as Luan approaches] "I have a more interesting case… how you got the lead role in this play." [The audience gasps, intrigued, while Mrs. Bernardo gasps in shock] Mrs. Bernardo: "Egad, this isn't the script. She's going rogue!" [groans] "How do you close these things?" [Even though she spends a lot of time backstage, Mrs. Bernardo doesn't know how to close the curtains, she tries pulling down a rope, but the rope ends up pulling her up, entangling her, she tries to escape] Luan: "You created a fake mystery so that you could solve it in front of Mrs. Bernardo, knowing that it would get you the lead role." Amy:[flabbergasted] "What? You have no proof!" Luan: "Oh, but I do. My first clue was Gertrude's stage marker, right where the sandbag hit." [Flashback to that marker] "Unlike the others, it had a purple mark on it." [Back to the present, where Luan holds up Amy's hand for all to see] "Just like your nail polish." [Amy is in fact wearing purple nail polish. The audience gasps] Audience Member: "Oh, my!" Luan: "Then, I noticed the scissors used to cut the rope were for a lefty." [Flashback to Rex signing for the package] "But when Rex signed for the package I sent him, I discovered he was a righty." [Back to the present] "But not you. Catch!" [quickly throws an umbrella at Amy who flinches, but does catch it, in her left hand; the audience gasps again] Audience Member: "She's a lefty? I did not see that one coming." [Amy tries to hide the umbrella behind her back, sheepishly smiling] Luan: "You cut that rope." Amy:[tosses the umbrella away] "But Rex was the one with rope burn on his hands, not me." Luan: "Cheap stage makeup. It was in the trash under your dressing table." Mrs. Bernardo:[still tied up in the ropes] "What is she doing?" [tries to pull herself free again. She tugs on a sandbag but gets propelled even higher. She does end up untied, clinging onto a rope that dangles above the stage, but the sets for the park scene crash onstage." Spencer:[still thinking the play is going on] "Uh, Shannon, the dog park is your scene." [Spencer runs offstage and Shannon runs onstage in her mulberry bush costume and takes her place] Amy: "This is ridiculous. Why would Rex confess if he didn't do it?" Luan:[laughs] "Because you were working together." Shannon:[despite having been there when Amy and Rex hugged] "But they broke up." Luan: "I thought so too, mulberry bush." [Shannon still doesn't like being the bush] "But then I sent Amy flowers..." [Amy, who knows what she did upon seeing those flowers, is shocked to realize they were sent by Luan, as a trap. Flashback to Amy receiving them] "..and signed the card Heart your loving boyfriend, to see what she'd do." [Flash forward to what she did] "And she went running right into Rex's arms." [Back to the present] "You see, they never did break up. In fact, he's here right now, cheering her on." [Rex is in fact in the audience, who all gasp at his presence] Rex:[doesn't know what to say right now] "Love you, Babe!" Amy:[can't deny anymore] "Not helping, Rex! Ugh, fine. I did it. I wanted Mrs. B to see me as a great detective so she'd cast me as Agatha." [Mrs. Bernardo gasps, letting go of the rope she's hanging from, and drops. She gets up and glares at Amy] Mrs. Bernardo: "I'm disappointed in you, Amy. The bruises I just got don't hurt nearly as much as your deception. And, Luan, very impressive sleuthing. When it comes to the role of Agatha, there's no mystery who should play it. You, my dear!" [Luan gasps in delight. The audience then cheers and applauds, then gets out of their seats to leave.] Audience Member: "What happened to the dog?" Mrs. Bernardo:[aghast] "Wait! That wasn't the play! It hasn't even started yet!" [Runs off to get everyone back] Amy: "I'm sorry, Luan. What I did was pretty crummy." [returns the hat] "I'm gonna drop out of the play." Luan: "Oh, apology accepted. But I don't think you need to go that far. I have an idea."
[Later, the audience is back for the real play] Mrs. Bernardo: "Places, everyone!" Shannon:[finally out of the mulberry bush costume squeals in excitement] "I'm so excited. I get to play Gertrude." [Meanwhile, the new lead mulberry bush is groaning] Amy: "Shannon, how did you walk in this thing?" [slips on a mulberry and goes tumbling backwards, crashing into Ed the janitor again] "Oh! Sorry, Ed." Ed:[gets up] "Ah, great. Now I got mulberry juice on my cashmere overalls. That's it! Starting tomorrow I'm going back to polyester!" [Iris out on Ed's overalls. The end]
