[It's a sunny day on the docks, the fishmongers are going about their business. Just then, Lincoln and Lynn Sr. arrive in the dock]
Lynn Sr.: [Takes in a breath] "Smell that beautiful lake air, son?"
Lincoln: [Takes in a breath and gags] "It smells really..." [Gets knocked over by a fish on a rope. His dad helps him up to his feet.] "...fishy."
[Just then, the other Loud father and his youngest son arrive]
Lance & Shiloh: "Louds."
Lynn Sr. & Lincoln: "Louds!"
[Shiloh playfully tackles his cousin while the two Mr. Louds fist bump. Suddenly they hear the previous Mr. Loud]
Leonard: "Louds!" [Leonard gleefully jumps down from the deck of his boat and approaches] "I'm so excited to catch some fish and family bonding on this trip."
[Picks up and hugs all four Louds]
Lynn Sr: "Us too." [The fathers kneel to their sons] "You know, boys, when Lance and I were kiddos, Gramps was always out at sea earning a living. We never went on fishing trips."
Leonard: [Kneels to his sons] "Well now I get to make up for lost time." [Chuckles] "I'm just so…" [Starts sobbing] "Ding-dang, happy to have you all back in my life." [Suddenly they all get knocked over by a fish on a rope] "Hey, Bobber, watch out where you're swinging that fish, huh? And take a picture of me and my minnows."
[Takes out and throws a camera to a crusty looking man, who looks through the lens and gestures them into position. Four of the five get together, and Lincoln notices the other future Mr. Loud is missing]
Lincoln: "Wait. Where'd Shiloh go?"
Lance: "Oh he's, uh, cage fighting a lobster." [Inside a lobster cage Shiloh actually does have a lobster in a scissor hold. The lobster breaks free and snaps its claws at Shiloh, but Shiloh manages to pin the lobster. Lance slaps the deck] "One! Two! Three! Atta boy."
[Picks up Shiloh, who is still holding the lobster, and joins the others for the photo, holding Shiloh upside-down by one leg. FLASH]

[Later, they are all on Leonard's boat]
Leonard: "Now, if you're baitin' a hook remember to leave some length at the end cause when ya angle ya gotta let it dangle." [Chuckles. Meanwhile the boys have their lures hooked and show their Gramps] "Ooh. Great work, little minnows."
[The adults run up to show their own lures]
Lynn Sr.: "How's my hook?"
Lance: "What about mine, Dad?"
Leonard: "Oh, you two big minnows." [Chuckles] "Ah, this is what family fishing trips are all about, making memories that last a lifetime." [Shiloh has something in his mouth] Shiloh, don't eat the rubber worms."
[Shiloh spits it out and salutes. Suddenly a cooking timer goes off]
Lynn Sr.: "Sounds like my Lynn-sangnas are done. I'll just go-"
[Suddenly Leonard yelps in pain and grabs his right foot]
Lincoln: "Gramps!"
Shiloh: "What's wrong?!"
Lance: "Ah, looks like a cramp." [cracks his knuckles] "Lucky for you I give a mean foot massage."
[Prepares to do so]
Leonard: [With a suddenly stern tone] "No." [Groans] "It's a sign." [Ominously] "He's here." [Leonard's minnows have no idea who this 'he' is] "The great white sturgeon, Moby Rick." [Flashback to his early fisherman years] "I had just gotten my first job as a deckhand on The Codfather, and boy was I excited to set sail."
[Young Leonard takes in the lake air and boards. The ship is on the water and like most deckhands with nothing to do Leonard is playing cards with the rest of the crew and a pelican]
Young Leonard: "Go fish."
[The pelican takes an actual fish out of it's bill and tosses it on the rest of the cards, everyone lets out a hearty laugh]
Leonard: "Oh, it was fish friends and fair seas, everything I'd ever dreamed of. But one faithful day…" [A roaring sound is heard] "..that dream became a nightmare." [From the depths of the briney deep, a giant sturgeon leaps out right next to the boat. Leonard and the crew take a closer look and Rick gives them a menacing glare, the other crewmen and the pelican skedaddle leaving Leonard alone on the deck, where Rick lands right on top of him] "He smashed our boat to bits." [End of flashback] "But that wasn't the only thing Rick took that day. He also took…" [Yanks the boot off his pain-riddled foot revealing a lack of…] "...my big toe!"
[His minnows gasp]
Lynn Sr.: "That explains why you always wore socks with your sandals."
Shiloh: "Awesome. Can I touch it?"
[Slowly runs over to do so, but Lance picks him up by the head]
Leonard: "I've been tracking Rick for thirty years, vowing to one day get my revenge and mount him, right there." [Points up, right to a plaque with Rick's name on it] "I've had a few chances but never bagged him and now, Rick, is close by. My phantom toe never lies."
[His minnows gasp again]
Lance: "Well I know one thing… no one hurts my old man and gets away with it."
Shiloh: "Yeah, you take one of our toes, we take all of yours. Wait, do fish even have toes?"
Lincoln: "We'll help you catch him, Gramps."
Lynn Sr.: "You're ding-dang right we will. Nobody messes with the Louds!"
[They all cheer and Lance chest bumps his brother, only to send him flying back, and overboard]

[Later, Gramps is scouting the horizon with his binoculars]
Leonard: "Shiloh, you see anything?"
[Lance is dangling Shiloh under the water and pulls him up]
Shiloh: "Nothing, Gramps!"
Leonard: "How's the chummin' comin'?"
[Lincoln and Lynn Sr. are throwing buckets of chum off the deck of the boat and gagging on the scent]
Lincoln: "Not so good. I'm on my last bucket of fish guts and there's no sign of Rick."
Lance: [Seeing his brother is seasick] "Oh, you're looking a little green around the gills, baby bro." [Holds some Lynn-sagna under Lynn Sr.'s nose] "Maybe some heavy cheesy pasta will make you feel better. Huh?" [Lance knows the smell of the cheese is just gonna make Lynn Sr. more sick, and it does. Lynn Sr. swats it overboard. Lance runs over with a fish net] "Hey, five second rule." [Scoops it right out of the briney fish-filled lake] "As good as new." [Takes some out of the net and eats. Suddenly, Rick finally rises from the water behind him, but Lance is completely unaware. Lincoln backs up fearfully.]
Lynn Sr.: [Stunned] "Big. Fish. REAL BIG FISH!"
[Lance finally turns around and screams as he throws his hands up in fright, tossing the remains back in the water. Rick swims off and plunges toward the water, devouring the rest in the process.]
Leonard: "Oh! Rick loves Lynn-sagna! Quick!"
[Slides down from the bridge and Shiloh runs to the railing]
Shiloh: "There he is! Starboard side!"
[Leonard joins Shiloh and sees Rick swimming for it. Leonard grunts and grabs his plunger harpoon, he waits until Rick is swimming in a straight line and fires. The plunger sticks to Rick]
Leonard: "Yeah! Gotcha!" [The line attached to the plunger follows it off the deck and takes a large buoy with it. Rick swims fast but he can't shake the buoy off. The rest of the Louds join] "The buoy should keep him near the surface, so when he tires out we can grab him." [Rick dives down below, the buoy follows after Rick, suddenly the water gets calm, the Louds are confused. Suddenly, the buoy reappears] "You're mine now, Rick." [Leonard moves the boat forward to the buoy] "Drop the trolling net."
[The net gets dropped right on top of where the buoy is and pulls in something. They bring the net onto the deck and open it to find nothing but a simple turtle. Everyone but Shiloh go deadpan]
Shiloh: [Actually impressed] "Whoa. Rick must have pulled the old switcheroo when he disappeared under the water."
Leonard: "Ah, he's clever, I'll give him that."

[Later, Lincoln is standing next to multiple hooks and is baiting one with Lynn-sagna. He lets it into the water]
Lincoln: "That's the last of the Lynn-sagna. Angled and dangled."
Leonard: "Good, I just hope we've put enough lines in the water."
[There are lines in the water going all around the boat. The one Lincoln just put in suddenly gets pulled he grabs it and pulls back]
Lincoln: [Strained] "We got him." [Rick pulls harder] "He's heavy."
[Leonard grabs his grandson and pulls, then Lynn Sr. grabs his father, then Shiloh his uncle. Lance is the only one left]
Lance: [Gets his muscles ready] "Time to let the pythons eat." [Kisses each bicep and joins his family. Lance grabs onto his brother] "Heave ho, gents."
All Five: "Heave! Ho! Heave! Ho!"
[Rick keeps pulling and takes the whole boat along, the rest of the rods falling in the water. The Louds are taken on a wild ride until the line finally snaps, the recoil sends them flying back, one by one slamming into the cabin wall. They slide down and then get up]
Lynn Sr.: "Well, I think we're done here. We gave it the old college try but we should head in. It's too dangerous."
Lance: [Not scared] "I guess some people just aren't cut out for sea life." [Chuckles] "Huh, Pop?" [They hear a growl and Rick comes shooting out of the water like a rocket, he looks down, ready to bite again, and dives back into the briney deep sending a shockwave so hard the boat jumps into the air and then a tidal wave of water drenches the Louds leaving them covered in seaweed, except for Lance who has a giant fish on his head] "Okay, I-I-I wanna go back too."
Leonard: [Blinded by thirty years worth of unclaimed vengeance] "We can't go back now, we've got him on the run." [Grabs his binoculars] "Look! He's headed over there."
[Lynn Sr. takes the binoculars and looks for himself as Rick slithers into the mouth of a skull shaped rock formation with multiple pointy rocks pointed in it's direction. There's a wooden post with signs attached. Lightning strikes]
Lynn Sr.: [Reading the posted signs] "DEAD MAN'S COVE ☠️?" [Reads the signs below it] "HOME OF THE DEAD MAN'S RIPTIDES AND DEAD MAN'S DROP?" [More lightning] "I'll pass."
Leonard: "You're right. It is too dangerous, I'll go after Rick alone."
[Sets off]
Lance: "Huh? Wait what happened to all that family bonding talk?"
[Leonard hops into a small motorboat attached to the back of the ship and drops]
Leonard: "I'm sorry, but I have to do this."
[Starts the motor]
Lincoln: "We've gotta go after him."
Shiloh: "Yeah, like you say, Dad, Louds stick together."
Lance: "Uh, technically I said that after you glued yourself to your sister. But, you're right."
Lynn Sr.: "Darn tootin'. Lance, follow that ding-dang dinghy!"
[Lance revs up the engine, it won't start, so Lance tries pounding on the controls]
Lance: "She won't start."
[All they can do is watch Leonard go into the cove alone]

[Inside the cove, Leonard is singing a shanty to himself]

Leonard:
Farewell and adieu to my loved ones and mateys ♫
♫ Farewell and adieu to my loved ones and friends ♫
♫ 'Cause we've gotten orders to pack us a monster ♫
♫ And so nevermore shall we see you again

[Leonard hears something in the water and looks, a small pool of bubbles is nearby, the dark shape below them fades away. He hears splashing and growling and looks the other way, something quickly goes under the water. Leonard's dinghy comes to a stop]
Leonard: "Show yourself, Rick. You're not escaping me this time."
[There's another growl as Rick comes up below the dinghy and throws it like a beachball right out of the cove. It lands in a grove of pointy rocks just above the water. Meanwhile, back on Leonard's boat, the others are trying to paddle but are just spinning in the water]
Lance: [To Lynn Sr.] "Can you row harder?"
Lynn Sr.: [Defensively] "Well maybe you should row softer."
[Meanwhile, Leonard comes out of the dinghy with his plunger harpoon ready]
Leonard: "I didn't come this far to let you get away!" [Fires his harpoon and snags Rick. Rick swims faster until the line runs out, and takes Leonard for a ride one on one. Rick drags Leonard through a coral reef. He swims over a sleeping octopus, angering it, and when it gets out of the water to complain it gets stuck to Leonard's head, it jumps off, but not without inking Leonard] "It's over, Rick. You can't shake me!" [Climbs the rope and jumps on Rick, they wrestle under the water, then Rick jumps out, wrapped in the rope, with Leonard riding him triumphantly. They land. Leonard is successfully tightening the knots, now having Rick on the rocks tied up] "Ha! I've got you! After thirty years I've-"
Lynn Sr.: [Offscreen] "We're coming for you, Dad!"
[Leonard looks over and sees his boat being thrown around in the riptides]
Leonard: [Shocked] "Are those my minnows?"
[Suddenly they pass a sign reading DEAD MAN'S DROP]
Lynn Sr.: "The current is too strong!"
[The boat is headed for a very large waterfall, and the bottom of which is a graveyard of destroyed ships. Leonard's minnows see the fall and freak out]
Leonard: "Sweet scallops!" [Gets an idea and leaps onto Rick's tail] "Rick, I got a fisherman's bargain for ya. I promise to let you go if you do one thing for me."
[Rick thinks about it. Meanwhile Leonard's minnows are still getting closer to dead man's drop]
Lynn Sr.: [Not knowing Leonard is planning a rescue] "Okay we gotta abandon ship, and swim for it." [They all get in the rail] "On my count, one, two…"
Lance: "Wait! Uh…" [Picks up his son] "Shiloh doesn't know how to swim."
Shiloh: "Huh? Yes I do."
[Lance knows Shiloh can swim and sighs]
Lance: [Ashamed] He's right, he's right. It's me. I'm pure muscle mass. I sink like a ding dang brick!"
[After that statement, Shiloh gives Lance an "Are you serious?" expression in annoyance.]
Lincoln: "Guys! We're gonna go over!"
[They're getting closer and closer and scream, when suddenly they hear whistling. They look and see Leonard riding Rick and swinging a rope]
Leonard: "Hang tight, Minnows!"
Lincoln: "It's Gramps, and he's…"
Lynn Sr.: [Can't believe it either] "Riding Rick?"
[They resume their screaming, but just as the boat tips Leonard throws the rope and catches the boat. Rick then turns, apparently being strong enough to swim against the current and pull the boat to safety]

[As night falls, Rick is still towing the boat]
Leonard: "I'm so sorry, boys. I got way too caught up in chasing Rick. You all mean so much more to me than some old fishing grudge. Come here, bring it in, Louds."
[Group hug. Meanwhile, Rick has gotten the boat to the dock. Leonard salutes him and Rick salutes right back. Rick then goes back to do whatever is it fish do]
Lincoln: "So you're really not gonna go after Rick again?"
Leonard: "Nope, I'm letting that obsession go, Skipper. Plus, I got bigger plans for that spot I was gonna put him in." [Looks at that spot, which suddenly has the photo they took that morning framed] "How's it look?"
Lincoln: "I think it's perfect."
Leonard: [Chuckles] "Me too."
[They admire the photo. Meanwhile, Rick jumps out of the water as high as the moon, he winks at the audience and dives back into the water]
