Plot[]

When Lynn crushes on a boy in the Swiss Alps, Lori and Leni become her crush coaches to help her talk to him.

Synopsis[]

On their next stop of their European road trip, The Louds arrived in a small snowy village in the Alps, where Lynn is excited because she is competing in the Snow Fury games and can't wait to win all events. Just then Lynn noticed a young boy cleaning a cuckoo clock in a window display, where she dropped her snowboard, which caused Lincoln to ride on it by accident while a dog is chasing him. The young boy then chased both Lincoln and the Dog where he calmed the dog while preforming athletic skills, but he didn't save Lincoln, who manage to stop after hitting a pile of snow. As the young man, who name is revealed to be named Henrik returned the dog, Lynn continued to look lovestruck at him as Lori and Leni discovered that Lynn has her first crush. At first, she denied having a crush on him but upon seeing him flex a muscle, she admits she likes him but since she's no good with romance, Lori and Leni decide to help her by being her crush coaches and instruct her to "Meet Cute" him.

Her first attempt to "Meet Cute" Henrik was going into the cuckoo clock shop to talk to him, only to be both interrupted and pester by a few cuckoos' clocks birds, which resulted in her throwing one and accidentally hitting Henrik with it, causing her to leave but not before paying for the clock. Next during a Polka, she attempted to dance her way to him, and it nearly worked, only for be grabbed by someone who tells her to dance the other way, which resulted in her pushing the person and causing a domino effect that launched Henrik to a pile of snow. In her last attempt as Henrik was about to get some cheese fondue, Lynn appears next to him and explains that she was doing some stretches before getting some fondue, only to accidentally poked Henrik with her sharp skewer, sending him to the fondue. Lynn then apologizes as she revealed that she was the reason Henrik was hurt but he said he actually wanted to thank her due to being cold from the snow as both of them decide to hang out.

After a short montage of them hanging out, from blowing alphorns to making snow angels (where their fingertips briefly touched) Lynn and Henrik returned to the village, where when Lynn wanted to hang out with him again tomorrow but Henrik revealed that he is competing in the Snow Fury games that day and just as Lynn was about to say she's competing, another young boy arrived and after both him and Henrik gave each other angry looks, Henrik revealed this guy to be Heinz, someone who beat him in the Snow Fury last year and upon hearing how Henrik said that he would never forgive him, ran towards Lori and Leni and told them about Henrik and the Snow Fury. Realizing that if Lynn beat Henrik, he wouldn't like her anymore and since Lynn is known to never lose on purpose, she came up with an idea to not only compete and win but prevent Henrik from hating her.

The next day Lynn competes in the Snow Fury, under the persona of Helga in order for Henrik to not recognize her. During the games Lynn crushed every single event from snowboarding, to luging and to ice skating and while she was declared the winner, she notices Henrik being upset as he threw his skates and walked away. As the sunset, Lynn and Henrik are seen sitting on a log while drinking hot Coco as Henrik is disappointed that due to the Snow Fury taking the whole day, he and Lynn couldn't hangout that much due to her leaving tomorrow. After making a loud burp, which Henrik said he likes that she is honest with herself, and upon hearing about that Lynn decides to tell Henrik the truth; that she was Helga and the reason why she did that was because she was worried that Henrik would hate her like how Heinz when she beat him in the games.

However, Henrik revealed that the reason why he hated Heinz wasn't because he beat him in the snow fury, but rather because when they were little kids, Heinz would pull pranks on him, and that she discovered that when he was upset that she beat him, it was actually him hating himself for losing and realize that thanks to Lynn, he can be a better athlete. Hearing that Lynn asked Henrik if she and him can still be in touch after she leaves and he said yes as after they fell due to a chest bump, they started making snow angels again and like before, their fingertips touched each other, which followed by them holding hands as Lori and Leni are excited that they finish helping Lynn and even after their squealing caused a pile of snow landing on them, they continued to squeal.

Trivia[]

  • The premise of this episode is similar to those of "Food Courting" and the Casagrandes episode "Squawk in the Name of Love", as all are about the main character trying to win their love interest with coaching from some friends.
  • This is the first time that Lynn expresses genuine romantic interest in a boy. In "L is for Love", she appeared to be attracted to Francisco, but it was later revealed in "Singled Out" that she was dehydrated. In the latter episode, she briefly dated Dexter, albeit only to fit in with her friends, who also had crushes.
    • Henrik later returns in "Merry Diss-mas", further confirming that she has remained in a relationship with him.
  • The citizen that Henrik jumps over while chasing after Lincoln on Lynn's snowboard uses the same model as Errol.
  • Lynn playing the alphorn loudly is likely a reference to how she can play the tuba,[1] which is a brass instrument that requires more air to play than a normal wind instrument.
  • Innuendo:
    • One of the cuckoos blowing a raspberry at Lynn can be interpreted as a play on the phrase "flipping the bird", which is a rude gesture where a person raises their middle finger.
    • Lynn suggesting that she can show Henrik how to loosen his jaw "if [he wants] to hang it in tomorrow" implies that they were going to be kissing.
  • Irony: After his run-in with Hans, Henrik swore that he would never have anything to do with him again. Hans ended up not competing in the Snow Fury at all, and Lynn later discovered that he held a grudge against Hans not because he beat him, but because he's always a jerk to him.
    • On top of that, Lynn initially thought that Henrik had a grudge against loss in general, but it later turned out that whenever she won against him, Henrik was mad at himself because he knew he could do better, not mad at "Helga" for winning.
  • Cartoon physics:
    • As mentioned above, one of the cuckoo clock birds is somehow able to blow a raspberry.
    • Lynn's luge speed, which is only faster than Henrik's by eight seconds, is enough to melt the snow and create a wave.

References[]

  • Alpining Away - The title of this episode is a pun of the idiom, "pining away", which means to become thin and weak because of sadness or loss.

Errors[]

  • When Lynn points out that Leni has correctly identified her problem with competing against Henrik in the Snow Fury, her bangs are flipped.
  • Plot hole: It is never explained how Leni has gone back to speaking English after spending the previous episode exclusively speaking Italian after eating Nonna Viola's pizza.
