Episode Information

"Europe Road Trip: Greece Is the Word" is the thirteenth episode of the eighth season, the three-hundred-forty-sixth episode of The Loud House, and the fifth and final episode of the Europe Road Trip story arc, as well as the final episode of the eighth season to air.

Plot[]

During a tour of the Parthenon, Lincoln puts on a soldier's helmet which sends him back to Ancient Greece.

Synopsis[]

On the next stop of their European road trip, the Louds arrive at Athens, Greece. As the family takes a tour of the Parthenon, Lincoln, the only one bored by the sights, is told by Clyde, following the tour on Lincoln's phone, that he should be excited because he's exploring a place with such a rich history. Suddenly, Lincoln comes across an ancient Spartan helmet, to which the tour guide reveals that they were forged by gods and are said to possess magical powers. After the rest of his family leaves to continue on their tour, Lincoln gets the idea of putting it on, when suddenly, a portal opens up and he's sucked into it.

The portal ejects Lincoln onto a deserted island. Figuring out that the helmet did this, Lincoln puts it back on, hoping to be taken back to Greece, but nothing happens. At that moment, Clyde arrives, and Lincoln runs up to him, only for the individual to state that his name is Clydius McBridius. Lincoln asks him where he is, and Clydius tells him that he's in Greece... in the year 450 BC. Horrified about his predicament, Lincoln states that he's from the future, and that the helmet transported him here. Believing this is punishment from the gods for taking something that's not his, Clydius makes the suggestion that Lincoln return it to where he found it, and when Lincoln says that he got it from the Parthenon, Clydius says that they can travel there by boat.

Soon, Lincoln and Clydius are on their way to the Parthenon. On the way, the two encounter various mythical creatures. First, they encounter a trio of sirens, who almost hypnotize and eat Lincoln, but Clydius saves him, but this causes their boat to crash. Second, the two enter a maze which has a boat on the other side, encountering a minotaur who attempts to attack them for trespassing into his maze. After taking out the minotaur by tripping it, the two exit the maze, where they encounter a cyclops, who tells them that he'll give the boys the boat if they can solve his riddle ("Why was six afraid of seven?"). Lincoln correctly answers "Because seven ate nine." (thanks to Luan having told that joke before), and when Clydius remarks that the cyclops didn't see that response coming, the cyclops assumes it was an insult at his singular eye and prepares to attack them, but Clydius squirts lemon juice into his eye, taking him out, and allowing the boys to take the boat.

Arriving to Athens, Lincoln and Clydius finally arrive to the Parthenon, only to discover it is a shopping district (as it was revealed during the tour what the place originally was before it became ruins). With nowhere to return the helmet, Lincoln loses hope, thinking he'll never be able to return to his time. Suddenly, he and Clydius find a poster stating that someone named Rustus the Great is looking for their lost helmet, which looks exactly like the one Lincoln is wearing. After spotting Rustus (who bears an exact resemblence to Rusty), Lincoln offers him his helmet back and, with his task completed, a portal opens up, and Lincoln is sucked in.

The portal ejects Lincoln, and he is happy to see that he back in the present. After reuniting with his family, Rita and Lynn Sr., aware of his initial disinterest at the start, state that they want to spend the afternoon doing what he wants, but Lincoln says that he wants to learn more about Greek Mythology. At that moment, Clyde, still on Lincoln's phone, spots a vase behind Lincoln detailing his and Clydius' adventure (which Clydius was in the process of making during their time together). When Clyde questions the history of the vase, Lincoln tells him that it's going to be quite the story.

Trivia[]

  • The kid visiting the Parthenon ruins uses the same model as Lance.
  • Lincoln mentioning that the Loud house would crumble faster than the Parthenon is a callback to "Homespun".
  • The spiral on the portal on Clydius' urn resembles the letter G.
  • The soldiers walking by the Parthenon wear clothes in the same color scheme as El Falcon's outfit.
  • This is the final episode of the series to air on YTV in Canada, as a result of Corus Entertainment not renewing its rights to broadcast Nickelodeon programming on its channels due to financial issues. The series going forward will premiere new episodes on the Canadian version of Paramount+.[1]
  • Irony:
    • Lincoln dismissed Greek mythology (the monsters from which later turned out to be real) as fake, unlike David Steele, which is explicitly a work of fiction.
    • Clydius mocking the cyclops by betting that he "didn't see [that he and Lincoln would pass his riddle] coming" offended the cyclops by making it think it was a jab at his monocular vision, causing them to lose the boat as their reward.
    • Lincoln's stolen helmet turned out to have already been lost by Rustus when he arrived in 450 BC.
  • Foreshadowing: The creatures on the urns that appear during the tour depict the same monsters that Lincoln encounters after getting transported back in time to ancient Greece.

References[]

  • Greece Is the Word - The title of this episode is a pun of "Grease is the word", a lyric from the chorus of the titular song of the 1978 romantic musical comedy film, Grease.
  • Trolls World Tour - Clydius stuffing lemons into his ears to prevent the Sirens from hypnotizing him is similar to how Hickory and Poppy block out hypnotic music by stuffing gumdrops in their ears in this 2020 DreamWorks animated film.

Errors[]

  • Crete is labeled on the map of Europe, despite being part of Greece.
  • Clydius wears glasses, just like his modern-day counterpart, despite the fact that eyeglasses were not invented until the 13th century.
  • In the Portuguese European dub, Leni's lines at the end of the episode are voiced by Paula Pais, who is responsible for voicing Lori, despite her current actress, Ana Teresa Pousadas, doing her lines at the beginning of the episode.
  • Plot hole: Clydius tells Lincoln that the helmet transported him back to 450 BC. The people living during that time would not have known that a "common era" would be approaching, thus meaning that the date according to calendars at the time would be different than in the modern Gregorian calendar.
  • The cyclops' fingernails are inconsistently chipped or not chipped between several shots.
