"Exchange of Heart" is the twenty-seventh episode of the fourth season, and the one-hundred-seventy-sixth episode of The Loud House.

Plot[]

To divert the attention of his helicopter dads, Clyde arranges for an exchange student to stay with them.

Synopsis[]

In the morning, Clyde wakes up, and Howard and Harold quickly show their signs of over-protection, as they have him wear a seat belt on his chair to prevent him from falling, preventing him from seeing a movie about crows, not letting him eat his breakfast egg hot, not letting him spend an all-nighter playing video games with Lincoln, and not letting him have hot sauce. At school, Clyde expresses his annoyance with this level of over-protection to Lincoln (as well as explaining how he's forbidden to eat pickles due to someone from the 1800s dying after choking on one). Lincoln suggests to Clyde that he simply needs a way distract his dads long enough so he can be independent. After looking at the school's bulletin board, Clyde comes up with the perfect idea.

S4E15A Carnival costumes

Being a Brazilian, Tiago knows when to liven things up.

At night, Clyde explains to his dads that he suggests they host a foreign exchange student from Brazil named Tiago for a few weeks, and despite some hesitation from Howard, Harold agrees to let Tiago stay with them. At that moment, Tiago shows up to the McBride house where he quickly warms up to the family. As Tiago shows off some samba costumes, Clyde attempts eat a pickle, but is nearly caught by Howard. Realizing that his dads aren't distracted enough, he decides to come up with a new plan.

The next day, as Howard and Harold show their over-protective nature to Tiago, Clyde attempts to lure the three out of the house with a picnic, but when Clyde is unsuccessful at letting his dads stay at the house by himself, he decides to tag along (where he's revealed to be in an even worse situation, as he has to wear an mosquito hat and is tied down to a tree to prevent him from walking too far). Later, as the dads and Tiago eat, Clyde attempts to distract them by saying that Tiago is homesick, and suggests that they spend the whole day together, and Howard and Harold agree. The moment the three leave the house, Clyde proclaims that he's finally free. He spends the whole day eating pickles, watching the crow movie, dancing to loud music, eating hot sauce and having a pillow fight with the cats. At that moment, Howard and Harold arrive back home and state that they had a great time with Tiago. Because of this, Clyde jokingly remarks that if they had fun, they should travel to Brazil to learn more about him.

The next day, Clyde wakes up and discovers his dads missing. They left a note stating that they went to the farmer's market with Tiago. Throughout the whole day, Clyde discovers how different his life is without the aid of his dads, as they forget to leave him breakfast to warm up, not leaving him a note on where they went, and not giving him an impromptu haircut. The next day, Clyde wakes up and discovers another note, stating that they went to airport. After looking at the empty closet and remembering his comment from two days ago, Clyde fears that his dads are going to Brazil without him and quickly asks Lincoln for help.

S4E15A Tiago kisses Clyde farewell

Tiago gives Clyde a kiss farewell.

After being driven to the airport by Lincoln and a sleepy Lori, Clyde finds his dads and begs them not to leave for Brazil and explaining how he just wanted some freedom for himself. Suddenly, Howard and Harold laugh, saying that they're not going to Brazil. They reveal that Tiago is going back to Brazil, since he got accepted into samba school, and the reason their suitcases were missing is because Tiago wanted them to carry some Flippees. They also reveal that they knew that Clyde wanted more independence, since there was a security cam in the house that recorded Clyde's freedom. As Clyde and Tiago bid farewell, Tiago reveals that he came up with the samba school story in an attempt to leave, saying that Howard and Harold's over-protectiveness is too intense for him to handle, and Clyde states that he wouldn't want it any other way.

The next day, Howard and Harold agree to let Clyde be independent by letting him have pickles before breakfast, but the instant Clyde takes a bite, some pickle juice flies into Howard's eye, and his arm flail causes the hot sauce bottle to fly into Harold's mouth, causing Clyde to remark that pickles really are dangerous.
