Maybelle is a supporting character in The Casagrandes.

Biography[]

Maybelle is a very picky customer, who comes to the mercado regularly to place tall orders. She’s known for making large and complicated orders.

In "No Show with the Casagrandes", Hector mentioned that he was held up in the mercado, taking care of Maybelle.

Maybelle first appeared on screen, when she came to the mercado, while Ronnie Anne was on duty. Maybelle gave Ronnie Anne a large list of everything she wanted from the store and noted that she was very particular. She needed two pints of strawberries and for Ronnie Anne to check the bottoms of the cases for mold. She also required seven cans of cat food and they needed to be fresh. She demanded that her groceries be double-bagged and warned Ronnie Anne not to bruise her bananas. When Ronnie Anne thought that her work was done, Maybelle said that Hector always brought her groceries home for her, meaning that Ronnie Anne had to do the same thing, which she unwillingly did.

In "Face the Music with the Casagrandes", she attended Hector's birthday party and played the drums in the musical number.

In "Store Wars with the Casagrandes", Maybelle was one of the customers at the Hi & Buy superstore, leading Ronnie Anne to fear that the superstore was taking their mercado's customers.

Maybelle went to the mercado once again and Frida wanted to win her over, by giving her something that Hi & Buy didn't. She took a picture of her. The picture came out looking really ugly and Sergio tried very hard to painfully refrain from insulting her.

At the end of the episode, The Casagrandes won Maybelle's loyalty (along with the loyalty of many other of their regular customers) by treating her like more of a friend than a customer.

In "Finders Weepers", she is revealed to be the owner of the coin purse the girls found in the mercado. At first, she's angry with the girls for spending her hundred dollars. But, she decides to let the girls make it up to her, by having them do chores around her place.

In "Do the Fruit Shake," it was revealed that in the 1970’s she was in a disco trio called The Tropical Fruits, and "Mango" was her stage name.

In "Skatey Cat", Maybelle is briefly seen sitting on a park bench with Irving, who seems to admire her.

Personality[]

Maybelle is obsessed with order and perfection. She’s extremely picky about the things she gets and she wants to make sure that everything is perfectly in place.

Appearance[]

Maybelle is an African-American adult woman, with curly black hair, droopy cheeks, and a big nose. She wears a white visor, black sunglasses, red lipstick, golden earrings, a light orange sweater, a darker orange sweater over that, a long red skirt and brown shoes.

In "Store Wars with the Casagrandes", it was revealed that she had yellow eyes, as they appeared in the photo Frida took of her.

Trivia[]

  • Her address is unknown, but seeing as she was referred to as a neighbor in "A Very Casagrandes Christmas" despite not living in the Casagrande Apartment, she probably lives nearby.
  • "Meal Ticket" reveals that dairy gives her gas.
  • "Flight Plan" reveals that she has a crush on a mango-loving actor.
  • "Do the Fruit Shake" reveals that when she has a song in her head, even if it's one she hates, she will not only sing it, but also dance. It also reveals that when she gets nervous, eating a mango helps her ease her fears.
