"Food Courting" is the twenty-sixth episode of the sixth season and the two-hundred-seventy-second episode of The Loud House.
When Leni realizes Miguel has a crush on Gavin, the new food court employee, she sets out to help Miguel woo him.
Synopsis[]
At the Royal Woods Mall, Leni and Miguel are at the food court and are choosing from the many options to eat. They settle on the Spaghetti on the Stick, when Miguel immediately falls for Gavin, who works the stand. Leni takes Miguel to the "caboose of truth" (the kiddie train) where Miguel tells Leni that he does have a crush on Gavin but is nervous around him. Leni plans to help Miguel to talk to his crush. The next day, Leni tries to help Miguel woo Gavin using small talk but Miguel flubs it due to being a nervous wreck and runs away, getting sauerkraut in his eyes. The next attempt is Leni using Lincoln's David Steele spy gear to feed Miguel dating conversation lines to say to Gavin. Scoots arrives with fresh lavender pants, forcing Leni to focus her attention to Scoots, but Leni fails to turn off her David Steele spy gear, so Miguel ends up repeating everything she says to Scoots. Gavin asks if everything is okay, but Miguel runs away again and falls into the fountain where Felix offers him a towel.
At Dairyland, Leni knows that Gavin will be spending his day off at the park due to her hiding being his car and listening to him on the phone. Leni spots Gavin in line for the Seas o' Cheese ride and plans for them to get on the same boat so Leni can talk up Miguel. The duo gets in front of the line to meet with Gavin, however Miguel and Leni get separated due to the two-people limit. Inside the ride, Leni starts talking up Miguel to Gavin, but Gavin thinks that it was Leni who was having nervousness talking to him as he felt the same way in the mall. It is then revealed that Gavin has had feelings for Leni and not Miguel. Now a totally nervous wreck herself, Leni ditches the ride by jumping into the sea of cheese. Leni meets up with Miguel and he thanks her for trying to talk to Gavin about him. Leni shortly afterward goes to Tippy in-costume and explains what had happened. Then Leni comes up with the idea not let Miguel find out that Gavin has a crush on her.
The next day at Reininger's, Gavin brings over takeout to Leni then she hears Miguel's voice. Leni shoves Gavin into a storage closet and lathers herself with the skewer's sauce. At the Loud house, Leni and Miguel are going over 17 1/2 Magazine quiz questions when Gavin shows up outside and starts blasting the Seas o' Cheese music from a boombox at max volume. Panicking, Leni shoves Miguel's head under the couch and gets Lynn to throw Charles's bone into Gavin's pocket, causing Charles to chase Gavin off.
At the food court, Leni sits alone with Tanya discussing on how she feels terrible that Gavin is into her and not Miguel and also thinks that she likes him too. Gavin appears and serenades Leni with a ukulele and takes out a takeout box of penne. Leni wants to talk to Gavin but Miguel shows up and gasps at the sight. At the display booth of Reininger's, Leni apologizes to Miguel due to her behavior recently, but Miguel is quick to forgive her. He then supports Leni and Gavin's relationship and is cool if Leni wants to know Gavin better. They both go to Spaghetti on a Stick and Leni goes to woo Gavin by using the same teaching she gave Miguel. As Miguel is watching Leni and Gavin talk, he slips on spilled water and lands in the janitor's bucket, and Felix hands him a towel. He takes Felix's hand and they both chuckle kick-starting Miguel's sudden crush on him, making Leni squeal in excitement.
The premise of this episode is similar to that of the Casagrandes episode "Squawk in the Name of Love", as both involve a person seeking advice from a friend in order to win a love interest.
This is the fourth episode to introduce characters in same-sex relationships, with Miguel having a crush on Gavin, Felix implying to having a crush on Miguel and Gavin being implied to be bisexual. The other three episodes were "Overnight Success" (Howard and Harold), "L Is for Love" (Luna and Sam), and "Singled Out" (Lainey and Alice).
Coincidentally this episode and the two formers are written by the same writer.
This episode reveals that Leni sings the song "Dairy Binds the World Together" in the shower, and because of this, Luna finds her to be "uncool".
According to Lynn, she can eat "lunch" at least four times a day.
Irony: Leni tries to pair Miguel with Gavin only to fall in love with Gavin herself.
References[]
Food Courting - The title of this episode is a portmanteau of "food court" (the dining area of a mall) and "courting" (the act of being romantically involved in something).
Say Anything... - Gavin trying to serenade Leni by playing "Dairy Binds the World Together" with a boombox over his head is identical to how Lloyd tries to serenade Diane in this 1989 teen romantic comedy-drama film.
Errors[]
When Leni jumped out of the Seas of Cheese ride and lands in the cheese, a white rounded object appears is next to her after Gavin drifts away.
When Miguel was introducing Leni to Gavin, there's a light gray line at the bottom of Leni's hair.
When Leni leaned over to look at the penne Gavin made, her neck is layered over the frills of her dress for a few frames.
Also in the same scene, Leni's hair is layered behind the chair.
