Episode Information

"Friends in Dry Places" is the forty-ninth episode of the fourth season, and the one-hundred-ninety-eighth episode of The Loud House.

Plot

While on a field trip, Lincoln worries that his friend group is splintering.

Synopsis

While Lynn is bouncing a soccer ball, Lincoln comes in, asking for a sleeping bag. When Lynn asks what he needs it for, Lincoln says that the fifth graders of the elementary school are going on their final field trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. Lynn states that she went on that trip before, and shows Lincoln a picture of her playing with her bunk mate. However, when Lynn can't remember her name, she warns Lincoln that once he gets to middle school, his friends will slowly drift away. Lincoln proclaims that his friends will still be together.

S4E26A Lincoln is worried again

Lincoln is worried that he might lose his friends.

Arriving to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Lincoln is excited that he can hang with friends, but to his disappointment, he learns that bunk mates have been chosen for them. Looking at the listings, Lincoln discovers that he is bunking with Principal Huggins, and that his friends are bunking with other students, which they are fine with. This makes Lincoln fear that this is a sign that his friends are starting to deviate.

Lincoln tries to do some sand boogie boarding, but discovers that his friends aren't present. Sneaking around the park grounds, he discovers that his friends are partaking in different activities, like Clyde stomping cherries to make jam with Richie, Stella riding an ATV with Girl Jordan and Cheryl, Liam sailing with Trent and Principal Huggins, Rusty playing in the sand with his bunk-mate, and Zach roasting marshmallows with Hassan. When the day ends, Lincoln meets up with his friends at a campfire and says this is the first time they're hanging out together. Suddenly, Rusty, with his nose bandaged up after a turtle attacked him, arrives and calls Lincoln "Lance". Remembering how Lynn said that drifting friends will forget their friends' names, Lincoln is now convinced that his friendships are falling apart.

Sneaking into Clyde and Richie's cabin in the middle of the night, Lincoln tells Clyde that their friendships are falling apart because of how they're doing activities separately and how Rusty got his name wrong. Believing in Lincoln's plight, Clyde questions what they can do. Lincoln suggests that he gets them all to take part in the same activity (dunes hike), and they accomplish this by crossing their names off the activities list on the announcement board.

The next day, Lincoln, Clyde and their friends prepare for the hike (despite pointing out that they didn't sign up for a hike). Later, as the group treks through the scorching dunes, they realize that they might be lost, but Lincoln says that as long as they work together, they might figure out a way back. After the group is given tasks to do, Lincoln reveals to Clyde in secrecy that they're actually not lost, as he has a map. However, a gust of wind blows the map into a tree, which is then stolen by a bird. When Lincoln remarks that they really are lost, the friends, having heard what he said asks what he means. Cracking under pressure, he reveals that he removed their names from the activities they signed up for so they can hang out more. Angry that Lincoln got them in a predicament they don't like just for the sake of being together, they tell him that he has done enough to help and proceed to go in separate directions in hopes of finding their way back.

S4E26A Riding in the dunes

Lincoln is finally having fun with his buddies.

Now alone, Lincoln discovers the bird that stole his map, and tries to get it back, but falls into a deep hole. He cries out for help, and his friends, hearing his distress (and seeing his distress signal), arrive and form a chain to pull him out. After pulling him out, Lincoln apologizes for lying to them, saying that Lynn told him a story that once they get to middle school, their friendships will eventually fall apart. They reassure him that they'll always be friends and just because they do different things, their friendship won't change. After a group hug, Lincoln points that they're still lost, when suddenly, Cheryl arrives with her ATV and offers to bring them back to the campgrounds. As they ride back in an inflatable raft (courtesy of Clyde) being towed by Cheryl, Lincoln proclaims that nothing can separate them, but a sudden bump throws him out, prompting him to chase after them on foot.

References

  • Friends in Dry Places - The title of this episode is a pun of "friends in high places", which refer to powerful friends who typically help one to get or do what one wants.
  • Coppertone - Lincoln's appearance on the title card is almost identical to this sunscreen company's famous ad of a dog pulling on a little girl's swimsuit, revealing her tanned buttocks.
Archie & Peanuts references
  • On the girl's list of bunk mates, all the names listed, aside from Stella and Girl Jordan's, allude to characters from various comic series and classic sitcoms:

Errors

  • When Lincoln's friends are pulling Lincoln out of the hole, Rusty is missing his tinfoil on his head. Then when Lincoln is apologizing, Rusty is wearing the tinfoil again.
  • Rusty's bunk mate is identified as Lance; however, he is clearly not the same character from previous episodes.
  • Lincoln said that Lana's snake gave birth in his sleeping bag, but in reality, snakes lay eggs.
