"Hiccups and Downs" (originally titled "A Major Hiccup") is the twenty-ninth episode of the sixth season, and the two-hundred-seventy-fifth episode of The Loud House.
Luna needs to get rid of a nasty case of the hiccups before a big rock competition.
Synopsis[]
Luna can't get rid of her hiccups.
The Moon Goats have made it to the finals of the Rumble of the Rockers, a band competition in which the winner gets to record a song demo. Luna excitedly returns to the Loud House to spread the news, but finds that she has hiccups. Despite Lisa saying the hiccups will cease in no time, Luna finds out she still has hiccups the next day. With the Rumble happening that night, she begs her siblings to help cure them.
After several attempts to cure the hiccups, like Lana having Luna cover herself in trash and Lucy and Luan working to tap into Luna's darkest fears, Luna's hiccups are still not gone. Next, Lynn and Lincoln set up an obstacle course that they believe will get Luna to fart her hiccups out. Just before Luna can try, Lisa gives her an anti-hiccup throat spray invented by herself, which only works for 15 minutes at a time.
Later, Luna and the Moon Goats arrive at the Rumble in Chunk's van, with Chunk unable to support them because he is playing a gig at the Hunnicut farm. During practice, Luna's hiccups resurface, but she finds out she has accidentally left the throat spray in her bag, which is in Chunk's van, and calls Lisa to have the siblings pick her up and take her to Chunk. The Louds drive to the Hunnicut farm, but they find from Liam that Chunk had played "Old MacDonald" during his gig and accidentally angered all the farm animals, forcing him to drive to Flip's Food & Fuel to get bandages. Their next stop is Flip's Food & Fuel, where Luna learns that Chunk had went to the Burnt Bean for a bingo gig.
Luna turns her hiccups into a hit song.
The Louds make it to the Burnt Bean, just in time to see Chunk leave to retrieve new vitamins. When they intercept him, Luna reclaims her bag and the throat spray, but she accidentally beaks it, forcing her to return to the Moon Goats and admit their chance of success is over. However, the Moon Goats find that her hiccups have a catchy rhythm and write a song around them. The song proves to be a success, and the Moon Goats win first prize. Luna finds out her hiccups are gone, and Lisa realizes that since her earlier excitement caused the hiccups in the first place, her excitement of victory had cured them. Unfortunately, the contest announcer expects Luna's hiccups to come back for the demo recording, and the Louds drag Luna away to bring back her hiccups.
The title card music is an instrumental of the song Luna performs in the episode.
If one is quick to notice, at the beginning of the episode, Lynn is kicking the basketball like a soccer ball.
This episode reveals the following:
Lana can cure the hiccups by smothering herself with garbage.
Luna may be afraid of Mr. Coconuts (though she may have just been afraid of how Luan was using Mr. Coconuts, rather than the puppet himself).
Lynn cures the hiccups by letting a "big blast" come out of her butt.
Lisa struggles to find Norwegian kelp.
Chunk always turns off his phone before a gig because he needs to enter the "Chunk zone".
Liam's animals hate Old MacDonald and go into a frenzy whenever they hear it.
Flip uses expired nacho cheese to get rid of both the hiccups and toe fungus, but using it comes with the side effect of temporary body numbness.
Dub facts[]
In the Portuguese European dub, this episode marks the first time Lucy's voice isn't provided by Helena Montez but rather by Alexandra Sedas, who would provide the voice for Lucy for the following episodes until "The Loud Cloud". Afterwards, Helena Montez would return as the main actress for Lucy, starting with "Great Lakes Freakout!".
All of this applies to Sam as well, since both characters are voiced by the same actress in the Portuguese European dub.
References[]
Hiccups and Downs - The title of this episode is a pun on the phrase "ups and downs," which refers to a succession of both good and bad experiences.
A Major Hiccup - The original title of this episode is an expression that refers to a big problem.
Regular Show - When Lynn and Lincoln react to Lisa crash landing in the kiddie pool filled with pudding, they high-five with alternating hands in the same way that Mordecai and Rigby do so in this Cartoon Network animated series.
Old MacDonald Had a Farm - Liam mentions that his animals enter a frenzy whenever they hear this children's song.
Saw - Mr. Coconuts' line "Wanna play a game?" is a reference to this infamous catchphrase from Billy the Puppet. Funnily enough, both of these characters who utter the line are puppets themselves.
Errors[]
Tip of Luna's hair clips through Mr. Grouse's house.
When Luna excitedly runs into the house and heads to her room, she is seen running past Lisa and Lily's room. Judging by this, Luna is actually running towards Lincoln's room while her room is in the opposite direction.
When Luna gasped after Lisa mentions about an anti-hiccup elixir, there's no water spilled out of the glass and there's a piece of toast on Luna's plate. When the camera cuts back to Luna, the glass has water spilled out of it and the toast disappears.
When Flip shows Luna "The Cure", he has his shoes off. Then when he collapses, he has his shoes on for a brief second.
When Lana begins demonstrating her hiccup-curing methods to Luna, the tips of Luna's hair clips through Mr. Grouse's house.
When Sam tells Luna that Chunk turns off his phone before every gig, the front part of her hair clips through the sides.
At the end of the Moon Goats' song, Sam's sideburns are positioned near the top of her head.
Lily's booties error.
When Luna tells her siblings that her hiccups are gone, Lily isn't wearing her booties. But before the final scene, we can see Lily wearing her booties.
When Luna tells the siblings to split up to look for Chunk at the Burnt Bean, Lola's hair is flipped.
