Synopsis[]

S7E20B Would you believe I'm too shy to sing in front of other people

Gus reveals that he has a passion for opera singing.

Late at night, Lincoln, Clyde, Zach, Liam, Rusty and Stella are heading home after hanging out at Gus' Games and Grub. Suddenly, Liam discovers that he left his retainer behind and proceeds to head back to retrieve. Upon arriving to the Games and Grub, they discover that the place is already closed. Suddenly, the gang overhears someone singing opera in the building. Thinking it's a burglar (since they don't think Gus could sing that well), they break into the building and discover a silhouette emptying the arcade machines of their quarters. The gang attacks the figure, only to realize it's actually Gus himself. After apologizing for attacking him, the gang is shocked to discover that Gus has an amazing operatic voice, to which Gus admits that opera is a side passion of his. When asked why he didn't pursue his venture, Gus admits that he has stage fright. Wanting to help share this talent of his to others, the gang tells him that they can help, to which Gus accepts.

The gang has Gus start out by singing for an audience of toys and inanimate objects in Lincoln's backyard, to which Gus hesitates, but manages to utter a bit. They follow this up by having him perform at Jean Juan's open mic karaoke, to which Gus is nervous. The gang tries to assure him that the audience won't notice, as it is all-you-can-eat-crepe-taco night. But when Gus attempts to sing, he gets nervous and tries to flee. Lincoln and Stella stop him, and they agree to sing with him. The three perform a song together, to which Gus's confidence grows so much that he overcomes his shyness.

The following evening, the Action News Team heads back to Gus's to look for Liam's retainer, only to discover that Gus has turned the Games and Grub into an opera house named Augusto's Opera and Antipasto. When they speak to Gus, he explains that because they helped him cure his fear of singing, he decided to renovate the restaurant to pursue a singing career. The gang is horrified to have lost their hangout, but Lincoln explains that they should give the new place a shot for Gus.

After being fitted into suits, the six kids try listening to some of Gus's opera singing, but they get tired of it after five consecutive hours. When attempting to play volleyball with General Blork, Zach's inflatable alien, they are confronted by a maître'd who informs them of their new policy against games. Now upset with what has happened, the gang decides to sabotage Gus's opera house so he'll switch back to the Games and Grub.

Stella rigs the caviar hoses and marinara mixers to go haywire, and she sets the timer for them. However, as they initiate their plan, Gus announces that he wants to dedicate a song that he wrote to his six friends to thank him for helping him overcome his stage fright. Touched by Gus's generosity, they try to deactivate the timer, but the maître'd takes the control away, believing it to be a game. Realizing that they now cannot stop their sabotage from activating, the gang takes them for Gus. As Gus performs his song, he is completely unaware of all the chaos until he finishes. He receives a standing ovation from the crowd for the performance, but is angry at the mess.

After the show, Gus confronts the kids and demands an explanation for the mess. The kids shamefully admit that they missed the Games and Grub, so they decided to sabotage the opera performance. But upon realizing their selfishness, they took the sabotages themselves. Gus, realizing how selfish he was as well, decides upon a compromise.

S7E20B The gang join Gus on stage

The Action News Team joins Gus for his show.

The following week, Gus has turned the opera house back into the Games and Grub, but he has also retained the opera stage. Additionally, he and the Action News Team have turned their prior performance into a monthly show, titled Tears of Marinara. As the gang performs their show, Rusty even finds Liam's retainer inside a meatball.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first season finale episode where Lincoln appears without any of his sisters in both segments.
  • The title card music is an instrumental version of "My Friends".
  • This episode reveals the following:
    • Liam wears a retainer.
    • Gus was glossophobic prior to this episode.
    • Jean Juan's French Mex Buffet holds an open mic night hosted by Tyler.
    • Gus' real name is Augusto.
  • Among the items used to make up the fake audience, the recognizable ones include Eunice, Tanya, and Nugget.
  • Irony: By making the marinara and caviar machines remote-controlled, Stella ended up breaking a rule when she attempted to turn them off, forcing an even bigger rule violation to happen by letting the maître d'hôtel confiscate the remote control.
  • This marks the first appearance of Tanya without Leni.
  • This is the final episode to have more than 13 episodes, as the eighth and ninth seasons (relative to production order) both got split in half for packaging purposes, thus yielding two 13-episode seasons each.

Errors[]

  • Possible: Nugget is depicted among the objects Lincoln uses to make a dummy audience, despite the fact that she belongs to Ingrid, not the Loud family or any of Lincoln's friends. However, it is possible that Lily was loaning Nugget at the time this episode takes place.
  • Lincoln and his friends arrive at Augusto's Opera and Antipasto in the evening, but when they are shown sitting outside again after five straight hours of Gus singing, it is still evening when it should be late at night.
  • When the Action News Team joins Gus onstage for their monthly performance, Stella's shoes are black in one scene.
