Lynn and Liam butt heads when they're forced to partner up as the middle school hall monitors.
Synopsis[]
As the middle school hall monitor, Lynn's job is to maintain order and control throughout the school. She starts her rounds by going around the school and giving demerits for infractions, including the cheerleaders hanging a banner too low, Zach's zipper being down on his pants, Clyde using the microwave in the cafeteria to heat salmon, and Paula scuffing the floor with her crutch. As she goes on her way, Meryl calls Lynn down to Principal Ramirez's office.
At the office, Mr. Bolhofner is just leaving with a new rhinestone collar for his pet bobcat, Rocket. Upon arriving at the office, Principal Ramirez tells Lynn that she is now receiving a partner for hall monitor duty. Lynn initially insists that she can work alone, but agrees to it. Lynn's new partner is revealed to be Liam, and Lynn is put in charge of training him. At that moment, Meryl declares that she received a tip about a student cutting class in the west hall, so Lynn and Liam head off together to investigate.
What follows afterwards is Lynn attempting to teach Liam how to properly discipline the students, but Liam, wanting to assist the students instead of punishing them, offers solutions to their problems without being too hostile.
First, they encounter the student supposedly cutting class, Sophia, and Lynn orders Liam to give her a demerit. Liam walks up to her and, after talking to her, explains that it's all a misunderstanding: she's new to the school and is unable to find her class, so Liam offers to provide her with a map.
Next, the pair find a student whose arm is stuck in the vending machine. Lynn immediately accuses him of stealing chips, but the student explains that he paid for them, and they got stuck. Therefore, Liam rubs a stick of butter over his arm, allowing the student to free himself. As compensation for the chips, Liam also gives him an egg, but upon biting into it, the student realizes that the egg is raw.
Lastly, they come across a kid who is stuck inside a locker, but when Lynn asks for an explanation, the kid is too scared to speak. Liam gives him a glass of milk to calm him down, and the kid explains that Chandler shoved him in. Lynn firmly believes she could have gotten him to talk without the milk, and she heads off to point out more infractions, only for Liam to reveal that he has given all the students potato skins as free passes, believing everyone deserves a second chance.
Lynn furiously goes to Principal Ramirez and demands she fire Liam, but finds that she too enjoys the system he has been implementing. She furthermore adds that the demerits Lynn has been giving out is just a means of recycling paper, and therefore worthless. Lynn explains that Liam is undoing her system of order with his nice approaches, believing it will lead to chaos, but Principal Ramirez insists to Lynn that she give Liam a chance, saying that there are multiple ways to maintain order. As a result, Lynn decides that if Liam is staying hall monitor, she will keep him out of her way.
During lunch, Lynn decides to get Liam off his back by cutting a hole in the school fence and assigning him to watch over it so that animals don't come running in. While Liam chases after a squirrel that comes running through, Mr. Bolhofner is having lunch in his car, and Rocket is hungry as well. Upon seeing Chef Pat throwing out leftover tuna salad, he rolls down the window, runs through the hole in the fence and chases Pat through the hallways. Rocket corners her and two other students in the bathroom just as Lynn arrives to stop him. However, Rocket rips up the demerit, so Lynn tries to wrestle with him, but Rocket is too much for her. Luckily, Liam arrives to see the commotion and, after seeing Rocket attracted to the tuna salad on Pat's apron, tells her to throw it away from herself and the children. She does so, and Rocket begins nibbling on the apron, allowing Pat and the girls to escape without harm. At that moment, Mr. Bolhofner arrives, accepts responsibility for Rocket's actions and takes him home. Lynn realizes that she was wrong about Liam, so she admits that she cut the hole in the fence and apologizes for what she did. Liam forgives her, and the two hug, officially becoming partners.
Later, Lynn and Liam are patrolling the halls, this time as a proper team. They are suddenly called down to the west hall to deal with a straggler. Upon arriving, they find that the straggler is a tired and exhausted Lincoln. Lynn is about to give him a demerit for being late, but upon being reminded by Liam about what she learned, she instead asks her brother why he's late, to which Lincoln explains that he didn't have any breakfast (due to Lynn eating it), so Liam gives Lincoln an egg, which is once again raw, much to Lincoln's chagrin.
This is the last episode to be storyboarded by Kevin Cannarile
Out of all episodes that were the last to premiere in a specific calendar year, this episode (along with its sister episode) premiered the latest, having aired on December 25th.
This is the second episode to have Lynn's name be in the title, the first being "Lynner Takes All".
This episode reveals the following:
The student handbook states that all banners must be at least 10'6" off the ground.
Mr. Bolhofner has befriended a bobcat named Rocket.
Liam's pee-paw has had breathing difficulties for a long time.
Liam always carries butter with him.
Liam has a chicken named Juanita.
Goat's milk calms Liam down whenever he gets anxious.
The demerits that the hall monitors hand out do not count against the violators' conducts; Principal Ramirez uses them solely as a method of recycling paper.
Lincoln's mention of Lynn eating his breakfast is likely a callback to the Listen Out Loud episode "Meet the Loud Family", where he mentions that she will also sometimes eat his dinner if she gets to the table faster than him.
The girls' bathroom where Chef Pat hides from Mr. Bolhofner's bobcat could be the same bathroom where Stella interrogated Paige in "Frame on You".
Innuendo: Lynn tells Zach that his fly is down, and he turns around to zip up his pants.
