Dropping in to save the world.

No Time to Spy: A Loud House Movie (titled onscreen as simply No Time to Spy) is a 2024 animated spy comedy film based on the popular animated series. It is the third animated film for the franchise (after The Loud House Movie and The Casagrandes Movie), but unlike its predecessors, it was released on Paramount+ instead of Netflix. The film was released on June 21, 2024.

Premise

Lincoln and the Louds are ecstatic to welcome their new Gran-Gran, Myrtle, into the family with a tropical wedding celebration, but the festivities are cut short when an old nemesis from Myrtle's secret agent past appears on the island. After Myrtle is taken, Lincoln leads his family on the super spy mission of his dreams to save her... and the world![1]

Plot Summary

37 years ago, Myrtle (AKA Agent 28) is a secret agent currently in the middle of a mission to stop the supervillain Rufus Dufus. After evading two jets chasing after her, she eventually arrives to Rufus' hideout and, after defeating Rufus' henchman, enters the control room, which is housing his latest weapon. Rufus reveals himself, and Myrtle charges after him, but is suddenly ambushed by his most loyal henchman, a former wrestler with a hammer for a hand named Ham Hand. After trapping Myrtle in a cage (to which she secretly starts filing), Rufus reveals that he plans to launch a rocket that has lasers which will take out all of Earth's communication satellites, so he can launch his own satellites in order to rule the world. Upon activating the rocket (which is set to launch in 60 seconds), Myrtle breaks free, takes out Ham Hand, and attempts to capture Rufus. However, during their scuffle, Rufus accidentally slips on a puddle of coffee, causing him to fall into his own rocket, trapping him. Myrtle attempts to disable the rocket, but is only successful in disarming the lasers. When the timer reaches zero, the rocket launches into space, taking Rufus with it, never to return.

Suddenly, it's revealed that the entire story was being told by Lincoln towards Clyde. Upon completing the story, Lincoln is ecstatic over the information that his step-grandmother is a secret agent and believes that he'll be able to go on real spy adventures with her. At that moment, Rita and Lynn Sr. tell their kids to get themselves ready for their trip, revealing that they're going on vacation to a tropical island to celebrate Albert and Myrtle's wedding. Arriving downstairs, Lincoln meets up with his grandparents and they tell him that they're giving him a special mission. Lincoln believes it's spy-related, but is told that he needs to protect the wedding rings for the ceremony (which Myrtle claims aren't insured). Upon being given the rings, Lincoln runs upstairs and proceeds to pack his bag with all of his David Steele brand spy equipment. Before they leave, Lynn is revealed to be training Lori on how to catch the bouquet (claiming that whoever catches it will get married next) by throwing things at her with little success, while Lisa assigns Mr. Grouse to watch over the house while they're gone. With all the Louds packed and ready, they officially head off.

Later, as the Louds fly to the island (occupying one half of the seats and annoying the other half), they meet an eccentric old woman sitting on the other side named Fifi, who is enamored, while also annoyed, by the Louds' shenanigans. When Albert goes to use the restroom after getting an upset stomach, Lincoln approaches Myrtle to tell him that he's looking forward to being a real spy like her and voices his suspicions that someone is watching them right now. Myrtle tells him that being a spy can have dangerous consequences and believes that he wouldn't get it. At that moment, Albert arrives and, seeing Myrtle tell stories of her past to Lincoln, admits to Lynn Sr. that he feels like he's not good enough for Myrtle, to which Lynn Sr. rebuffs. Sometime later, after arriving to their destination, the Louds board a bus to head to the hotel they're staying at, the Thunderball Resort, which is run by Flip's cousin, Flop. After getting themselves checked in, the girls go to the pool to plan the bachelorette party, Lynn Sr. checks up on the caterers to go over their menu, and Albert, Myrtle and Lincoln go on a fishing trip. Before the latter three leave, Lincoln accidentally bumps into a burly man with a mohawk who warns him not to bump into the wrong people on the island and informs someone over a walkie-talkie that "the truck's all loaded for the fishing trip", making Lincoln suspicious.

Later, Lincoln, Albert and Myrtle are on a boat, ready to do some fishing. Lincoln, using a pair of binoculars, discovers the mohawk man at a nearby dock, overseeing a recent shipment being loaded onto a truck. Wanting to know the contents of the crates being loaded, he uses his David Steele-brand waterproof camera to try and read the name labeled on the boxes, but the mohawk man spots him, who sends several of his henchmen to intercept their boat and confiscate his camera. Lincoln quickly warns Myrtle about the situation, and upon seeing the henchmen board the boat, she proceeds to kick their butts effortlessly, with Albert unintentionally helping out by knocking out the last henchman unconscious with a rock he snagged with his fishing line. Unfortunately, in the process, Lincoln's camera falls into the ocean. Arriving back to the shore, Myrtle, realizing the danger they're in, calls up her former boss, X, in order to have her send someone to the island to take care of the problem while she and the other Louds have to leave on the next flight off the island. Lincoln objects to this, saying that they could do it themselves, but Myrtle gives him a reality check by telling him that being a hero isn't just about being flashy; it's also about making sacrifices and tough decisions, even if you don't like it. After Myrtle accidentally injures Flop, she goes to check up on him, and Lincoln, going against Myrtle's wishes, secretly takes her phone in order to text X that they accept the mission. Upon getting confirmation, Lincoln runs into Fifi again, where she reveals that she was scavenging for sea glass on the beach and found Lincoln's camera, to which she gives back to him.

That night, at the resort, Lincoln texts up Clyde to inform him that he needs his help. Clyde, after arriving home from a bike ride with his dads, enhances the photo Lincoln took of the crates, and discovers that it reads "Rubiner's". After a quick search, they learn it's the name of a restaurant, and the island happens to have one. With his first big break, Lincoln dons his spy suits and heads out to go to the restaurant. However, Myrtle spots Lincoln heading off and decides to follow him to reprimand him. Before doing so, she gets a knock from a hotel bellhop named Owen, who bears a strong resemblance to her. Getting an idea, Myrtle decides to dress up Owen to look like her and pretend to be her for a while. The moment Myrtle leaves, Rita and the sisters suddenly barge in the room, ready to go out on an impromptu bachelorette party with "Myrtle".

Lincoln eventually arrives to Rubiner's, but is unable to enter because he doesn't have a reservation. He manages to sneak past the receptionist by giving her a bouquet of flowers (under the guise it's a delivery from a man she has a crush on). Upon entering the restaurant, he suddenly encounters Fifi again, encouraging him to come to her table.

Production history

On April 26, 2024, Nickelodeon released a teaser promo for the film.[2] That same day, Miguel Puga revealed that Kyle Marshall is tied to the production of the film.[3]

On May 2, 2024, it was announced that the film would premiere in the summer of 2024 on Paramount+ in the US, and that it would premiere internationally on June 23, 2024 on Nickelodeon CEE.[1]

On May 9, 2024, it was announced in a now-deleted article on Just Jared Jr. that the film would be released on June 21, 2024.

In an interview with Kyle Marshall and Michael Rubiner, when Nickelodeon said they wanted a second Loud House film, they chose the idea of doing a spy genre film based around Albert and Myrtle's wedding, which was set up in the show's Season 6 episode "Pop Pop the Question". They state that this idea came naturally, as the episode established that Myrtle was a secret agent in her past, and that Lincoln found himself a new fan sensation with David Steele.[4]

Trivia

Background information

  • This is the first animated film in the franchise to be distributed via Paramount+, rather than Netflix, and the first to be produced for television.
  • According to Miguel Puga, this film began production two months after The Casagrandes Movie began its production.[3]
    • He also revealed that title and subtitle for this film were originally going to be swapped, making the film's original title be The Loud House Movie: No Time to Spy.
Sawyer Cole Instagram story

Sawyer Cole confirming Bentley Griffin will be voicing Lincoln in the film.

  • Sawyer Cole, Lincoln's current voice actor, confirmed in an Instagram story that Bentley Griffin would be voicing Lincoln in this film. This suggests that this film was produced during the early production of Season 7, which Bentley Griffin was most prominent, thus making this the last piece of Loud House media where he voices Lincoln.
    • It's also worth taking into account that this film occupies six of the season's production slots, which explains why Season 7 only consists of 20 episodes instead of the standard 26.
  • Due to scheduling conflicts, Jennifer Coolidge was unable to reprise her role as Myrtle in this film, as she is voiced by Alex Cazares, instead.[4]
  • This is the first film in the franchise to be written solely by the show's regular staff, as the previous films were solely or co-written by writers who have not worked on any of the series.
  • Prior to the premiere of this film, the cast of The Really Loud House came up with their own spy names:
  • This film makes The Loud House the first Nicktoon film franchise to reach five films.

General trivia

  • This marks the first film in the franchise to feature Myrtle, and the first animated film to feature Albert and Todd.
  • This film takes place after the Season 6 episode "Pop Pop the Question", as this film is about Albert and Myrtle getting married after proposing to each other in the aforementioned episode.
  • This film reveals that Flip has a cousin named Flop Phillipini, who has the exact same appearance and voice as Flip. Much like his cousin, he also has an animal assistant (a crab named Ceviche) and has a habit of changing his alias to fit the occupation he's called to.
  • Rubiner's, the restaurant Lincoln sneaks into, is named after Michael Rubiner, the current showrunner for The Loud House. The owner of the restaurant is even modeled after him.
  • This is the first animated film where Bobby and Ronnie Anne do not appear (although the former is mentioned a few times), and thus, the first to not feature Carlos PenaVega or Izabella Alvarez as part of the cast.
    • Since a different character named Bobby appears in A Really Haunted Loud House, this is also the first film in the whole franchise to not feature any characters named Bobby.
  • Foreshadowing: There are a few hints that foreshadow Fifi's true villainous nature:
    • Her quirky personality whenever she encounters the Louds noticeably feels overplayed, which is a tactic most villains use to try and hide their true personality.
    • When Lincoln lost his waterproof camera in the middle of the ocean, Fifi somehow manages to get it back without explanation.
    • When the Louds get discovered trying to sneak into the base by the henchman, Fifi randomly appears with a dune buggy for them to use.
      • Since her plan was to get the Louds trapped in a rocket so she can send them to space, the last two notes prove that she wanted them to sneak into the base so that they could get themselves trapped.
