"Only Mime Will Tell" is the fifth episode of the eighth season, and the three-hundred-thirty-eighth episode of The Loud House. Plot[]For her try-out for the Varsity Mime Team, Luan must be silent for an entire day. Synopsis[]At the high school, Mrs. Bernardo is holding tryouts for the Varsity Mime Team in the gymnasium. The members joining consist of Luan and the rest of the Theatre Club. After some warming up, Mrs. Bernardo announces that whoever proves to be the best mime will earn a special beret. The tryouts consist of two acts; for the first act, the members have to reach the opposite end of the gymnasium through an (invisible) obstacle course. After getting through some of the "obstacles" like a giant fan, an oil slick and getting trapped in a box, the members manage to reach the finish line. Afterwards, Mrs. Bernardo reveals that, for the second act of the tryouts, they must go through the rest of the day without talking, which, according to the (invisible) book of rules, states that it even includes texting, writing, or "communicating in any form other than mime." With that, Mrs. Bernardo tells the members that they are dismissed. Arriving home, Luan jumps off the bus and runs into Lynn Sr. and Kotaro, who are heading over to Lynn's Table to get themselves ready for their lobster boil event. Before they leave, a lobster attacks Lynn Sr. (which Luan was unable to warn in time due to her silence), and Kotaro accidentally knocks his friend unconscious when trying to help him. In the process, Lynn Sr. unknowingly leaves his phone behind, and Luan tries to give it back, only for him and Kotaro to leave before she has the chance. Entering her room, Luan is prepared to relax. However, Lola, Lynn and Lisa arrive and inform Luan that they need her help with their respective tasks, consisting of Lola wanting to practice her hairstyling, Lynn needing a spotter for her weightlifting, and Lisa needing a test subject for her latest invention. Luan tries to tell them that she doesn't want to help them, but due to her silence, the three sisters end up misinterpreting her actions, and proceed to object her to several kinds of trouble, like Lola giving her a hideous hairdo, Lynn dropping her heavy barbell onto her, and suffering from numerous side effects from Lisa's invention. As Luan hides under the table, Rita announces to the kids that she's heading to the mall and asks if any of them want to come along, to which all but Luan agree. Now having the house to herself, Luan believes she's off the hook, when suddenly, Lynn Sr.'s phone rings. It turns out to be Lynn Sr.'s fish lady, Deb, who wants to inform him that the lobster she sold to him has gone bad and warns him not to serve it. Remembering that Lynn Sr. is holding an event at his restaurant where he's selling lobster, and after imagining a worst-case scenario where the customers will get sick and Lynn Sr. bemoaning that he's ruined, Luan becomes determined to stop it. Approaching Mr. Grouse, Luan tries to tell him that she wants him to drop her off at Lynn's Table. However, Mr. Grouse, unable to determine what Luan is saying, thinks she wants to grab something to eat, and offers to drive her to her destination. As the two drive, Luan tries to tell Mr. Grouse to head over to Lynn's Table, but Mr. Grouse, after having passed several restaurants, grows tired of Luan's "indecisiveness" and proceeds to place an order at Burpin' Burger. With no other options, Luan proceeds to head to the restaurant on foot. Arriving to Lynn's Table, Luan discovers to her horror that a large crowd has gathered, ready to have some lobster. Entering the kitchen, Luan proceeds to discard Lynn Sr.'s stash of lobsters, only to be stopped by her father, who believes that she's throwing it away because she thinks it's gross. Seeing the lobster being served to the customers, Luan proceeds to swipe them out of everyone's hands, when suddenly, she discovers Mrs. Bernardo about to eat hers. Luan tries to rush to her table, but ends up tripping. With no other options and realizing what she must do to save her teacher, Luan proceeds to break her silence (where she finally speaks for the first time in this episode) to warn her that the lobster has gone bad, to which everyone finally realizes upon sniffing it. Realizing she broke the number one rule when it came to miming, Luan breaks down crying, thinking she'll never make the varsity team. However, Mrs. Bernardo reveals that, according to the rule book, the only time mimes are allowed to speak is to save someone put in a life-threatening situation. As a result, Mrs. Bernardo bestows the varsity beret to Luan, and Lynn Sr. thanks his daughter for saving everyone from a disastrous meal, to which he then tells everyone that they get a free Lynn-sagna as compensation. As Lynn Sr. runs to the kitchen, Mrs. Bernardo tells Luan that rehearsals are about to start at the high school, and the two proceed to head there by hailing an invisible cab. Cast[]
