"Pranks Fore Nothing" (originally titled "A Prank of Their Own") is the second episode of the seventh season, and the two-hundred-ninety-seventh episode of The Loud House.
At Fairway University, Lori and her friends, Ewan, Marisa and Raj, hurriedly rush to meet up with Coach Niblick so that they can be present on time for an emergency practice session. However, when the four golfers arrive, their coach isn't present, and after realizing that the email announcing this session is bogus, they are suddenly ambushed by being pelted with balloons full of pudding. The attackers are revealed to be two students from Fairway's rival college, Sand Trap University, named Chet and Brooke. The two rival students reveal that today is the start of their yearly Prank Week, and after they leave, Raj and Ewan elaborate that Fairway has never won before, and that the losers are forced to clean the winner's bathrooms for a whole month. Not wanting to clean toilets and wanting to help Fairway win, Lori decides to call up the one person who knows how to help them out.
Sometime later, Lori introduces her friends to Luan, her home's resident prankster. Luan, with the help of Mr. Coconuts (or rather Commander Coconuts), announces that she's going to put the four golfers into some boot camp-style training in order to sharpen their pranking skills. What follows is Luan teaching her three basic types of pranks.
First, she teaches them about pranks that go splat. This has the four golfers practicing their pie throwing at cardboard cutouts of Chet and Brooke. After critiquing Raj for not aiming correctly, Marisa for throwing underhand instead of over, Ewan for eating the pies and Lori for not using the pie springboard correctly, she demonstrates how to use the springboard properly. Lori tries to copy what Luan did, but she aims too high and nearly hits Coach Niblick (instead hitting a gopher that just came out of a hole).
Second, she teaches them about pranks that go splash. She elaborates on this by revealing a laser system that, once triggered, activates the sprinkler system, drenching the two cardboard cutouts.
Lastly, she teaches them about pranks that explode. Asking for a volunteer, Ewan agrees to help. He is tasked with hitting a regular golf ball sitting on a tee. Upon hitting the ball, the ball suddenly explodes into a massive mushroom cloud of glitter.
With their training complete, Luan tells the four golfers that they are now ready, and before she leaves, she warns them that, since they now know the basics of pranking, they should be wary about their surroundings, since anything they see could be a prank. The moment Luan leaves, Lori tells her friends that they're ready to win the prank war.
Throughout the day, Lori and her friends attempt to prank Chet and Brooke with what they learned. This involves rigging their carts to launch pies the moment it hits a bump, layering fake grass over a water pit, and rigging the sprinklers to spray pudding the moment its laser system is triggered. However, the Sand Trap U golfers are revealed to be one step ahead of the Fairway U golfers, as they manage to turn the pranks against Fairway, like using a remote control to control the cart, creating their own water trap covered with fake grass, and dressing up as Coach Niblick so that they can get the four to set off their sprinkler trap themselves. Because of this, Chet and Brooke proclaim that they are unbeatable with the amount of points they have. That night, as Lori and her friends bemoan that they're going to lose again, Lori remembers Luan's words on how anything can be a prank, and realizes that she knows how to get back at Sand Trap U.
At the Sand Trap U campus, as Chet and Brooke bask in their success, they suddenly hear the Fairway U students loudly announcing that they just booby-trapped their entire golf course, and don't want to set them off. Initially, Chet and Brooke are not worried, but within seconds, they have second thoughts, and proceed to spend the entire night wrecking their golf course trying to find the booby traps. When they end up not finding anything, the Fairway U golfers reveal that they didn't put any booby traps at all, stating that, since anything can be a prank, the best trap they have can be nothing. Because of this, Chet and Brooke accept that they got pranked, but when Brooke points out that they still have more points than them, Lori says that because they successfully pranked them on every single hole, and every successful prank is worth 10 points, they get 180 points, thus declaring them the winners. As Brooke and Chet leave so they can get themselves ready to clean Fairway's bathrooms, Ewan, Marisa and Raj cheer for Lori for helping them win the prank war for once. However, the victory is short-lived, as their prank had inadvertently angered the gophers living under the course, causing them to be chased by a group of the agitated rodents.
Coach Niblick's e-mail address is notthenibs@hahachumps.prank.
One of Fairway University's rival colleges is Sand Trap University, and every year, they have a week-long prank war, and whichever one loses has its team forced to clean the winner's toilets for a month.
Luan considers the three basic types of pranks to be things that splat, things that splash, and things that explode.
Coach Niblick's least favorite dessert is tapioca.
The explosive prank is the only demo prank that was not tested on a dummy, since it was triggered by a golf ball and therefore needed to be hit by something that could move, and the splash-based prank is the only one that was not used on any of Lori's teammates.
The Sand Trap U team lured the Fairway U students to their golf course via a fake email sent by Coach Niblick, then ambushed them with pudding balloons. (+10)
The Sand Trap U team controlled the golf cart that Fairway U had booby-trapped, then used the prank Fairway U set up against them. (+10)
The Sand Trap U team made the Fairway U team fall into a water-filled pit exactly as they had planned to do to each other, inversely, then filled the pit with golf balls. (+15)
Chet disguised himself as Coach Niblick to trick the Fairway U students into de-pranking the prank they set up. (Not stated, but implied to be +10 based on the rules)
Fairway University: 180 (winner)
The Fairway U team put pies on springs and glitter bombs in the glovebox of one of the Sand Trap U golf carts. (Backfired)
The Fairway U team dug a pit and filled it with water, then covered it with fake grass. (Backfired)
The Fairway U team put a network of laser-activated sprinklers all over the Sand Trap U golf course, and each sprinkler would spray tapioca. (Backfired)
The Fairway U team tricked the Sand Trap U team into thinking they had set pranks all over their golf course, leading them to turn the entire course upside down in search of nonexistent potential pranks. (+180 since Lori counted each individual hole as a separate entity)
Irony:
The two colleges involved in the prank war have irony behind their names. Hitting a golf ball has the best performance when the ball is on the fairway, but the worst when it's in a bunker (sand trap).
The Sand Trap University students set pranks before the Fairway University students could set theirs, leaving the Fairway U students to be doomed by the same types of pranks they set.
Additionally, the Sand Trap U students set the backup pranks on their own property instead of at Fairway University.
The Fairway U golf team ended up using a splat-based prank in the same way Luan demonstrated a splash-based prank.
The prank that Fairway University used against Sand Trap university involved no pranks at all.
The prank was also what the family thought Luan would do to them in "Fool Me Twice", only here, it's actually put into fruition.
Brooke initially dismissed the Fairway U golf team for not having pulled enough pranks to win the prank war, but Lori exploitingly counts the fact that they left the Sand Trap U team searching for "pranks" at every individual hole as a serial amount of pranks, giving the Fairway U team enough points to win.
Despite the fact that the Fairway U golf team managed to beat Sand Trap U in the prank war, they still faced a comeuppance, as their prank had disturbed countless gophers living beneath the golf course.
