Plot[]

When Mr. Chang's job might go to a faster train conductor, he has to prove that he can be just as fast as a robot!

Synopsis[]

Carl, Ronnie Anne, Sid, and Adelaide hurry onto the GLART, and Stanley greets them. As they arrive at their destination, Mr. Vanderspeed shows Stanley a robot named GLART-E, saying he's testing him out with a competition alongside Stanley's route, and the first one to the end wins. As Stanley leaves, the kids eavesdrop on Mr. Vanderspeed talking to GLART-E about replacing the human conductors with robots. At the Casagrande's building, Stanley enters his apartment and sees Adelaide, Sid, Ronnie Anne, and Carl waiting for him. Sid informs her father that he will lose his job to GLART-E, which Stanley does not want. Ronnie Anne claims that they will prove Stanley is superior to GLART-E so that he cannot be replaced.

The next day, the kids and Breakfast Bot are at the station, Ronnie Anne, Sid, and Breakfast Bot will make Stanley's train go faster as Carl and Adelaide make GLART-E's train go slower. As both trains arrive at their second stop, passengers are about to board GLART-E's train when Carl and Adelaide dance in front of the door, blocking their way. On the S-TRAIN, Sid tells her dad that coffee will make his train go faster. Breakfast Bot pours the coffee into the train's control panel, which makes the train go fast but causes the control panel to explode. Meanwhile, GLART-E is wondering why he isn't moving, so he goes to check and sees the kids blocking the door, so he uses his extended arms and sucks Carl's radio in to get his train started. Adelaide comes up with a new idea. She takes out a giant gumball, chews it, and tosses it out the window on the back wheels. After the plan with coffee didn't work, Ronnie Anne's next tactic is to use butter, which would make the wheels go faster, so she dumped all the butter into Breakfast Bot, and he sprayed the tracks as they reached the next stop. GLART-E arrives and is wondering what's slowing him down now. He sees the gum and activates his laser eyes, as he melts the gum Adelaide sees that GLART-E left the conductor's cabin open. They go in and turn the throttle all the way up, leaving GLART-E at the station. They think they've gotten away, but GLART-E uses his lasers to cut through the roof of the cabin to gain control back. GLART-E starts catching up with the S-TRAIN, but Stanley's train wins the race to the station. Mr. Vanderspeed sees that Stanley made it there at record time and wants him to go that fast every time. Stanley asks who's ready for round two, but Carl, Ronnie Anne, Sid, and Adelaide say they can't help. Luckily, Breakfast Bot is there to help.

As they get to the second stop, Stanley checks his timer and sees they're not going fast enough. Suddenly, Reizouko rips the door open ask what's the hold up which Stanley ask him would he like an unlimited train pass. Reizouko agrees, gets behind the train, and starts pushing with his bare hands. They make it to the last stop, but Mr. Vanderspeed and GLART-E are waiting at the station. He tells Stanley he came in three seconds behind schedule and is going to go with GLART-E. Back at the Changs' apartment, Stanley is moping on the couch, which Sid and Adelaide are sad to see him like that.

On the now-robot-run GLART, Sid and Adelaide tell Ronnie Anne and Carl about their dad when suddenly the train stops. GLART-E comes out of the cabin, saying the train is delayed. The passengers aren't happy since they have places to go and GLART-E says the wait time is eight hours. He goes back into the cabin, and the passengers are not satisfied and all run up into the conductor's cabin. Ronne Anne says all the events downtown must have created a giant traffic jam. Mr. Vanderspeed pulls GLART-E from the conductor's cabin and asks who can fix the problem. Sid and Adelaide know what to do. Back at the apartment, Stanley gets a call from Sid saying they need his help, but Stanley reminds her that Mr. Vanderspeed says he's fast enough, but Sid says his passengers need him. She shows what's happening in the train car, and Stanley changes into his conductor's uniform and gets moving.

Ronnie Anne and Carl are trying to hold back the mob as Stanley arrives. He passes out cookies to the passengers, and everyone takes their seats. He goes to the conductor's cabin and tells everyone that when he says chugga-chugga they say choo-choo, which everyone does. He puts the train on an alternative route to avoid the traffic jam. Mr. Vanderspeed tells Stanley he was wrong to think he could replace him and asks him to comeback, which Stanley says he would love to but only at his own speed. Carl takes out his boombox to celebrate Stanley's return as a dance party starts on the train and Stanley dances for everyone.

Trivia[]

  • This is the final Casagrandes episode to have the Chang family as the main focus.

References[]

  • Race Against the Machine - The title of the episode is a reference to the rock band Rage Against the Machine.
    • The production crew also tried to get Tom Morello, lead singer of said band, to voice a character but weren't able to.
  • WALL•E - GLART-E's name is likely a pun on the titular character of this 2008 Pixar film.
  • John Henry - The plot of this episode is similar to this folktale, as they both involve a man competing against a machine slated to replace him at his job.

Errors[]

  • When Breakfast Bot begins to spray butter on the train tracks, the train is shown to be in motion, despite the fact that it was already stopped.
  • At the beginning of the competition between Stanley and GLART-E, the trains are shown on separate tracks. However, at the second stop, they both appear on the same track.
