Synopsis[]

S7E07B Luan realizes Mr

Where's Mr. Coconuts?

Continuing on their road trip[1], the Louds are travelling along Route 66 after having eaten at ten diners in a row for the travel column. As the kids clutch their full bellies, Luan lets out a massive burp, and when she tries to tell them that Mr. Coconuts did it, she discovers to her horror that Mr. Coconuts is gone. As Luan visibly panics, Luna asks her where she last saw him, to which Luan answers with the last diner they went to, and she successfully convinces her parents to turn around.

Arriving to the last diner they ate at, The Greasy Spoon, the kids begin to search every nook and cranny they could find. When Lisa discovers that the restaurant has surveillance footage, they rewind the video and discover a person in a trench coat taking Mr. Coconuts, making Luan realize that he was "puppet-napped". Taking a closer look at the thief's car, Lisa discovers a bumper sticker reading "DUST IS A MUST", which she learns is the slogan for Dusty Springs, a small town located a few miles southwest from where they are. With this information, Luan deduces that they'll be able to find Mr. Coconuts there.

Arriving to Dusty Springs, Luan tells her family to knock on every door so they can learn more about Mr. Coconuts' whereabouts and offers them posters from her latest performance to hand out. Unbeknownst to them, the thief is hiding in one of the houses. As the family searches the small town, the thief jumps into the RV and lets the emergency brake loose, causing the RV to start rolling away. Using a piece of rope Lynn snagged, the family is successful in stopping the RV from falling into a gulch, but discover the words "STAY AWAY!" sprawled on the back window. Luan realizes that the thief is aware of their presence and is trying to stop them from getting Mr. Coconuts back, with Lisa confirming her theory when she discovers a car with the "DUST IS A MUST" bumper sticker zooming away. Acting fast, the family proceeds with the chase.

S7E07B I could never puppet-nap him, because I'm his father, Calvin Coconuts

The thief reveals himself as the creator of Mr. Coconuts, Calvin Coconuts.

During the chase, the family discovers the thief taking refuge in a barn. Approaching the barn, the family enters and discover numerous marionettes creepily hanging on the walls. Suddenly, the marionettes begin to move, and the thief, who is revealed to be controlling them, proceeds to tie the family up, and leaves. After Lily bites through the ropes, the family resumes their chase. In an attempt to lose them, the thief drives into the desert, causing the dust to block the Louds' vision. With the thief now a considerable distance ahead, Luan believes they'll never catch up to him, but Lisa activates the RV's rocket boosters and successfully zoom past the thief, causing the thief to crash his car. The thief tries to escape with Mr. Coconuts, but ends up tripping on a spring stuck in the ground, allowing Luan to reunite with Mr. Coconuts. When Luan tells the thief that it's over, he reveals himself to the family as Calvin Coconuts, a renowned puppet maker who bears a strong resemblance to his "son". Calvin explains that, many years ago, he created Mr. Coconuts in his own image, and that they would tour the country together as a father-puppet banjo act. However, when they visited Royal Woods, a bird proceeded to swipe Mr. Coconuts away from Calvin, and during its flight, it hit a kite being flown by a younger Lori, causing it to drop Mr. Coconuts in front of a younger Luan, who decided to keep him. Calvin says that he thought he would never see his "son" again until earlier today, when he saw Luan and Mr. Coconuts at the Greasy Spoon, and, unable to lose him again, proceeded to steal Mr. Coconuts while Luan was in the restroom. After telling his story, Luan, realizing that Mr. Coconuts was never hers to begin with, decides to make the ultimate sacrifice and give him back to Calvin, saying it's for the best. After handing Mr. Coconuts back to his rightful owner, Luan also hands Calvin several of Mr. Coconuts' other possessions, and sadly gives one last goodbye before leaving.

That night, as Rita and Lynn Sr. tell Luan how proud they are of her for giving Mr. Coconuts back to Calvin, Calvin suddenly appears in the RV. He explains that he found one of Luan's posters and, realizing how much they get along together, decides to let Luan keep Mr. Coconuts, explaining that he's long retired from his profession, and says that he trusts her to help Mr. Coconuts share his talents with the world. After handing Mr. Coconuts back to Luan, Luan tells Calvin that he can come and visit Mr. Coconuts anytime, and Calvin decides to perform one last banjo performance with his "son" for old time's sake.
