Episode Information

"Road Trip: Screen Queen" is the fourteenth episode of the seventh season, the three-hundred-ninth episode of The Loud House, and the sixth episode of the Road Trip story arc.

Plot[]

When the Louds' road trip takes them to Hollywood, Lola is determined to become a star and land a leading role.

Synopsis[]

Continuing on their road trip[1], the Louds are in Hollywood, California, having just finished the tour at the film studio Tip Top Studios. As the Louds look over some of their favorite photos of the tour, Lola discovers the stage where they film the Dakota Rhoda film series, and decides to take a peek. Inside, she overhears the director of the film, Nora Nussebaum, stating that they're about to start shooting the film tomorrow, and they still haven't found the actress to play the lead character (as the old actress had recently turned 42). Seeing this as her golden opportunity to be star in a feature film, Lola decides to present herself to Nora as her new star, but Nora turns her down, saying that she only hires actors with a lot of buzz. Determined to land the role, Lola asks her family to help her land the role of Dakota Rhoda, and despite her parents saying that stardom isn't always all that's cracked up to be, they agree to help her.

Lola wants to be the new Dakota Rhoda.

Sometime later, as Nora goes on about her day, she repeatedly encounters the Louds, who attempt to paint Lola as the biggest star around, which consists of them pretending to be her biggest fans, her bodyguards, or film directors trying to get Lola to star in their films. Because of all this buzz, Nora becomes convinced that Lola is a big star and immediately asks her to be in her film, to which Lola eagerly accepts.

The next day, Lola eagerly arrives on set to start filming. However, instead of getting pampered like she was expecting, she ends up enduring the many obstacles of being a movie star. First, Lola has to swing on a vine to get over a large gap, and succeeds after her last few attempts end in failure. Second, she spends 99 takes trying to find the right voice to give the character (only for Nora to tell her that her original voice is the best). Third, she faces several different struggles while at her trailer, like her costume designer constantly pricking her with a needle while fixing a dress on her, getting large stacks of script revisions, and callers asking her unflattering questions. These struggles prove to be the final straw for Lola, so she decides to approach Nora and tell her that she wants to quit. Unfortunately, Nora tells her that, according to her contract, she can't quit until she turns 42. As Lola dejectedly walks away, she overhears Nora saying that she doesn't work with divas after she threatens to fire one of the animal actors, a snake named Keith, for refusing to act until his request is fulfilled. With this knowledge, Lola asks her family into helping her get fired from the movie, and they agree, saying that getting kicked out of things is a cinch for them.

Lola is now fired and returns with her family.

The next day, as Lola prepares to film more shots, she begins to act like a complete diva in front of Nora. This ranges from her saying that she only listens to her acting coach (Mr. Coconuts), being indecisive on where her trailer should be (with Lynn personally moving it herself), having Lori and Leni apply copious amounts of makeup on her, demanding a cup of orange juice from Rita, and Lynn Sr. rushing in to give her no-pulp juice. Fed up with all that has transpired (especially when Lynn Sr. accidentally sets two stage lights on fire), Nora angrily fires Lola, to which she nonchalantly accepts.

Cast[]

Ken Mu has no lines in this episode. Although they are listed in the credits, Luna and Lana have no lines in this episode, but Lana (as a sightseer) can be heard gasping when she sees Lola.

Trivia[]

  • The events of this episode were foreshadowed in "Road Trip: Bizarritorium" when Lola suggested going to Hollywood.
  • This episode reveals that Lola is a fan of the Dakota Rhoda franchise, which had its last installment filmed at most 35 years prior to this episode, given how the titular character's original actress is now 42 years old, 35 years older than Lola.
  • In the twentieth episode of the Nick Animation Podcast, it was mentioned that Lola's favorite movie has not come out yet since she has not starred in anything yet. This episode marks her first starring role (albeit backfired), as Dakota Rhoda.
  • This episode shares its title card music with "Crown and Dirty".
  • The premise of this episode is similar to that of the Casagrandes episode "The Kid Plays in the Picture", as both involve a child signing a contract to do something that they initially think is fun, but soon discovering is harder than it looks, then getting reminders about the contract when they attempt to chicken out of their job.
    • Unlike Monica with Carl, Nora was not as diabolical towards Lola.
  • This episode reveals that Lola wants to be an actress someday, but feels currently unready since the events of the episode.
  • Irony:
    • Lola initially wanted to land the role of Dakota Rhoda so she can achieve her dream of stardom, only to regret it when she realizes the hardships of being a movie star.
    • After being told by Nora to change up her voice, Lola tries an array of different voices to deliver her lines, only to be told that her normal speaking voice sounds the best.

References[]

  • Screen Queen - The title of this episode is a pun of the term "scream queen", which describes an actress with a high prominence in horror movies.
  • Indiana Jones - Dakota Rhoda is likely a spoof of this action-adventure film franchise created by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.
    • As a result, this theoretically makes Tip Top Studios a reference to Lucasfilm, the film production company that produces the Indiana Jones films. However, unlike Tip Top Studios, Lucasfilm does not have a studio lot. As such, Tip Top more closely references Paramount Pictures, the films' original distributor, or Walt Disney Pictures, the films' current distributor and the current owner of Lucasfilm.

Errors[]

  • At one point when Lynn (as a bodyguard holding Lola) passes Nora, Lola sounds like Lily while snickering.
  • Plot hole: It is unknown what happens with the Dakota Rhoda movie after Nora fired Lola. Perhaps a new person went in the studio and is the new Dakota Rhoda.
