"Sleepless in Royal Woods" is the twenty-third episode of the seventh season, and the three-hundred-eighteenth episode of The Loud House.

Plot[]

Unable to get Lily to go to sleep, Mom takes her for a drive where they happen to witness a burglary.

Synopsis[]

S7E12B Lily wide awake and causing a ruckus

Lily wide awake at 3:00 am.

At 3:00 AM, all of the Loud siblings are fast asleep... except for Lily, who is showing no signs of being tired after Lynn Sr. accidentally gave her a chocolate-covered espresso bean for dessert (having mistaken it for a raisin). Rita, who is staying up to watch Lily until she falls asleep, tries to pass the time by watching TV, where she sees Mrs. Bernardo starring in a commercial for bouncing shoes. Seeing how staying at home isn't tiring Lily out, she decides to go with her last resort and take her out for a drive.

One hour later, while driving around town, Lily is still showing no signs of getting tired. While stopping right next to Jean Juan's French Mex Buffet, Rita and Lily discover that a thief has broken in and is sneaking out with a bag of stolen property. Because of this, Rita promptly calls 911 to alert the police that she witnessed a burglary. However, the policewoman who answers their call, Shirley, proceeds to dismiss their claim, questioning why she and her infant daughter are driving out at 4:00 AM, and saying that she's just seeing things because she's really tired before hanging up. Realizing that the police won't help them out, Rita and Lily decide to take on the investigation themselves so they can prove Officer Shirley wrong. Inspecting the evidence the thief left behind, Rita and Lily discover that he stole fresh cheese, and find a map detailing his main destinations, where they realize that his next destination is a farm.

Arriving to the nearest farm, Rita and Lily discover the thief entering the farmhouse and riding away on a horse. Acting fast, the two proceed to tailgate the thief. Lily tries to take photos of him, but they come out in poor quality, making her tell her mother to drive faster, but due to the darkness, along with the map briefly flying into her face, Rita ends up crashing the van into a bale of hay. With their mode of transportation out of order, Lily suggests that they follow the thief on another horse, and despite Rita thinking that it constitutes as stealing, she is coerced into using it to go after the thief.

Lily finally falls asleep.

Following the horse tracks the thief left behind, Rita and Lily discover the thief has broken into Dairyland. Sneaking into the park, the two spot the thief wheeling away a cart full of plushies. Now having a full look at the thief, Rita tries to film him so they can prove Shirley wrong, but due to her own tiredness, she accidentally video calls Lynn Sr. instead, and the loud noises he makes ends up blowing their covers. Having been caught snooping on him, Rita and Lily attempt to evade the thief when he begins to chase after them. After hiding from the thief multiple times, the two attempt to head for the exit, but the thief lassos them up, and when Rita tells him that they won't tell, the thief states that they've seen too much. Thinking the thief is about to harm Lily, Rita breaks free from her restraint and throws her phone at the thief's face. Suddenly, the thief's voice becomes more feminine, and he proceeds to remove his mask, revealing himself to be Mrs. Bernardo. Mrs. Bernardo reveals that she committed all of her thefts in order to prepare for her role as a thief in a commercial (along with saying that she intended to return the things she stole), and that she knew all along that Rita and Lily were spying on her, saying that she just stuck to the role in order to keep the charade going. After Rita acknowledges that the events of tonight wouldn't have happened if she didn't drag Lily out for a drive, she discovers that the adventure they went through helped her accomplish her goal of tiring Lily out.

The next day, at the Loud House, Rita, Lily and Mrs. Bernardo are prepared to watch the latter's newest commercial. However, the commercial, which promotes a very loud security system, only features Mrs. Bernardo's hands. When Mrs. Bernardo asks them if they would like to go to Burpin' Burger for lunch, saying that she got a new role as a woman near a soda machine, Rita and Lily agree, and decide to go there by riding on the horses (who are shown eating Lynn-sagnas).

Cast[]

Lincoln and Lucy have no lines in this episode, but they can be heard snoring. Lisa also has no lines in this episode.

Trivia[]

  • This is the third Season 7 episode to use the standard title card music, following "Too Cool for School" and "Music to My Fears".
  • This episode makes a reference to the Really Loud House episode "No Louds Allowed" by showing how the Loud parents can make Lily go to sleep by taking her out for a drive at night. However, Rita's dialogue reveals that this is the first time trying this on Lily.
    • The episode further reveals that the parents also did this to the other kids when they got restless at a young age.
  • This is the ninth episode to feature only four voice-actors, excluding Lincoln and Lucy's snoring, following "Toads and Tiaras", "Patching Things Up", "Frog Wild", "Snow Way Down", "What Wood Lincoln Do?", "A Star is Scorned", "Strife of the Party", and "Double Trouble".
  • This episode reveals the following:
    • Todd sleeps (despite being a robot), complete with a sleep mask and nightcap.
      • Despite this, he has claimed in a previous episode that he doesn’t require sleep.
    • Rita likes to listen to a lot of crime podcasts.
    • Rita didn't pay much attention when learning about Egyptian history.
    • The water in the Seas of Cheese ride is made of limburger cheese.
    • Mrs. Bernardo does not own a television.
  • Like in "Cat-astrophe", this episode shows the great lengths Mrs. Bernardo will go when encapsulating a role. In this case, when auditioning for the role of a burglar, she’s willing to break the law and commit actual thefts in order to make her performance more genuine.
  • This is the only Season 7 episode in which Lily's catchphrase, "Poo-poo”, is said.
  • This was the last episode to premiere prior to the premiere of A Really Haunted Loud House.
  • Foreshadowing: The thief has a similar accent to that of Mrs. Bernardo's, which appears to be the only hint that proves that the two them are the same person.

  • In the end credits, this episode's cast is switched with its sister episode.
  • When Lily says “chicken farm,” the closed captions say “chicken parm.”
