Episode Information

"Small Blunder" is the forty-fifth episode of the sixth season, and the two-hundred-ninety-first episode of The Loud House.

Plot[]

Desperate to have the best show-and-tell in class, Lily takes Lisa's shrink ray to school.

Synopsis[]

Today is show-and-tell day at Royal Woods Preschool. While Lynn Sr. drives his kids to school, Lily reveals that she's going to present her stuffed Blarney the Dinosaur doll; the rest of the family wince upon being told, revealing that they dreaded their respective show-and-tell days because of the crushing blow of another student presenting something even better.

At the preschool, Lily presents her Blarney toy, which is capable of burping when its tail is pulled. While the toddlers love the presentation, it is ultimately overshadowed when another toddler, Michelle, reveals that she brought a Blarney toy that has a functioning toilet. As the days pass, Lily attempts to have the best show-and-tell with an impressive toy she could find, like a bubble mower, a snow cone machine, and a remote-control airplane, but in every instance, one of the other toddlers would bring something even better, like Jackson's horse-themed hopper ball, Jeffery's pet guinea pig, Tater Tot, jumping hoops, and Audrey with a ride on monster truck. Tired of getting overshadowed, Lily proclaims that she will bring something that will make her a star presenter.

Lily decides to consult her siblings for advice on what she should bring. First, she asks Luan, who offers her Mr. Coconuts. However, the wooden puppet is too heavy for Lily to carry. Second, she consults Lincoln, who suggests showing off some stage magic, but Lily is unimpressed after Lincoln's magic trick accidentally makes him lose his underwear. In desperation, Lily enters her and Lisa's room and, while rummaging through Lisa's desk for something to show, finds a miniature model of Vanzilla. However, Lisa reveals that it's the actual van itself, which she has shrunken down using her newest invention: a shrink ray. Amazed with the shrink ray's abilities, Lily requests to borrow it, but Lisa refuses, saying that she doesn't want it to fall into the wrong hands. After accidentally growing Vanzilla back to its regular size, Lisa decides to lock the shrink ray in her bunker. Sometime later, Lily attempts to steal the shrink ray from the bunker. After correctly entering the passcode (Lisa's birthday), Todd suddenly pops out, revealing that he was anticipating Lily attempting to steal the shrink ray. However, Lily manages to distract Todd with a lollipop and steals the shrink ray with ease.

Lily and her classmates have been shrunken by mistake.

At the preschool, Lily presents the shrink ray to her classmates, but when she tries to demonstrate its power, it doesn't work; it turns out that peanut butter got into the machine's circuitry. After Dr. Shuttleworth passes off Lily's presentation as her using her imagination, she leaves to get snacks. The moment she leaves, Lily licks the peanut butter off the shrink ray and manages to get it to work. Amazed, the toddlers praise Lily for a great show-and-tell, but they start to demand that they play with it. While trying to keep the shrink ray away, Lily accidentally drops it onto a table button side down, causing the beam to ricochet off a mirror before hitting her and her classmates, shrinking them until they're tiny. As the toddlers begin to cry about their situation, Lily says that she can climb up the table and use the shrink ray to get them back to normal.

Everyone is back to normal size.

The toddlers form a human ladder for Lily to climb up the table, but she ends up grabbing the attention of Tater Tot, who is now a giant compared to them. Because of his giant size, the toddles run away from the giant house pet. They take shelter in a dollhouse, where they manage to evade Tater Tot, but Audrey sneezes, revealing their location. After trapping Tater Tot in the dollhouse and hiding behind a pile of blocks, the toddlers begin to cry again, scared about their situation. Realizing her selfish desire to be number one put her classmates in danger, Lily tells them that, since she made them small, she'll make them big again. Looking across the room, Lily spots her toy plane, and tells her classmates to use its controller while she rides in it. The toddlers successfully control the plane so that Lily gets to the top of the table with the shrink ray. Suddenly, Tater Tot breaks out of the dollhouse, and Lily quickly tells them to get into position. After lining the shrink ray with the mirror, Lily activates it and quickly jumps into position with her fellow classmates, where the beam grows them back to regular size. Now back to normal, the toddlers thank Lily for saving them.

The next day, during show-and-tell, Lily has decided to bring a simple cardboard box, saying that it may not be something special, but it's all right with her. Suddenly, the inside of the box begins to glow. At the Loud House, Lisa is trying to find her teleportation box, when suddenly, a portal opens up in the ceiling, and Lily, her classmates, and Dr. Shuttleworth come crashing in, revealing that the box Lily brought was Lisa's teleportation box.

Trivia[]

  • This is the second episode to have Lily as the primary central focus, following "Any Given Sundae".
  • Lincoln appears on the title card as one of the weeds on the poster.
  • This episode reveals the following:
    • The Loud kids and Lynn Sr. always struggled to have the best show-and-tell when they were Lily's age.
    • Lily is a fan of Blarney, and she owns both a burping Blarney plush and a Blarney-themed snow cone machine.
    • Mr. Coconuts is too heavy for Lily to hold.
    • Todd is attracted to candy.
    • Lisa uses a transportation device inside a box to get to school whenever she runs late.
  • From this episode onward, Lily had more spoken dialogue than in previous seasons.
  • Lily mentions the events of "Last Loud on Earth" by bringing up how the passcode to Lisa's underground bunker is her birthday.
    • It also indicates that, despite realizing that everyone knows the passcode, Lisa hasn't bothered changing it yet.
  • When Jeffrey gets pushed backwards from Tater Tot high-fiving him, the blocks next to him spell out "JAW", possibly foreshadowing the immediate danger that the kids face afterwards.
  • Innuendo: Lincoln accidentally pulls out his underwear while doing a magic trick, then awkwardly hides them behind his back. Lily is reasonably disgusted by her brother's magic "trick" and leaves in disgust.
  • Irony:
    • Todd explains that he had to get up very early to anticipate Lily stealing the shrink ray, and he immediately drops his commitment to his task upon being offered a lollipop. In addition to this, Todd is very upset when the lollipop is destroyed, even though he wouldn't have been able to enjoy it in the first place due to his inability to consume food.
    • Lisa shrinks Vanzilla with her shrink ray to help Lynn Sr. with the cluttered garage, even though the more logical thing to do would be to shrink the clutter in the garage instead.
    • Lisa warns Lily that she doesn't want her shrink ray to fall into the wrong hands. Lily goes against her sister's words and ultimately pays the price when she demonstrates the shrink ray's powers to her classmates.

References[]

  • Small Blunder - The title of this episode is a term used to describe minor mistakes.
  • Honey, I Shrunk the Kids - The premise of this episode is similar to that of this 1989 film, as both involve a group of kids being shrunk down to a small size without the knowledge of an adult and forced to find the shrink ray that shrunk them in order to return themselves to their normal size, while facing hidden dangers in the meantime.
  • Pop Goes the Weasel - Lily's Blarney-themed snow cone machine plays this jingle when winded up.

Errors[]

  • When Lily was winding up the Blarney-themed snow cone machine, the storyboard of the scene appears on the top right of the screen.
  • When Lynn Sr. sees the Loud kids through the rear-view mirror in Vanzilla, their reflections are the same as their positions in the van instead of in reverse.
  • When Lynn Sr. is thinking about Billy Donovan, Vanzilla turns off the road, despite the fact that he did not have his hands on the steering wheel.
  • When Lily enters her and Lisa's room, the shrunken Vanzilla is on the table Lisa is working at. But it somehow appears on the other table when Lily finds it.
  • When Lily drops the shrink ray, it lands in the middle of the table facing downward. But when Lily tries to get the shrink ray, it's on the edge of the table facing upward.
  • When Lily and the other toddlers got shrunk down, the shrink ray and Tater Tot are not on the table.
  • Lily is barefoot when the shrink ray shrinks her and her classmates, but in the next scene, she has her booties.
  • When Lily and her class are accidentally transported to her and Lisa's bedroom, Lily and Jackson are the only ones to not have visible injuries.
