Episode Information

"The Chore Thing" is the second episode of the first season of The Really Loud House.

Plot[]

When Lincoln tries to get out of his chores on Chore Day, he and Clyde end up on a police ride-a-long, drawing unwanted attention from the notorious Custard Gang leader. Meanwhile, Dad loses all of the other kids throughout the afternoon.

Synopsis[]

Act I[]

Lincoln is relaxing at a virtual beach, wearing virtual reality glasses. He explains today is Howard and Harold McBride's wedding anniversary, and they intend on celebrating in virtual reality with Lincoln joining Clyde. However, it is also chore day at the Loud House. Lincoln comes up with a plan to get out of doing chores, explaining that if someone does their chores very badly, Lynn Sr. has to do the chores for them. Lynn Sr. assigns his children their chores, with Lisa taking the bathroom with her Zapmaster 3000, Leni taking the closets, and Luna having the windows. However, he also has to watch over Lily, as Rita has to leave to investigate a news story on the town librarian. As chore day commences, Lucy and Lola are assigned to clean the kitchen. Lucy instead decides to watch Vampire Bloodbath 9 in the basement. Lola, while afraid of having to watch a scary film in the basement, agrees to join in.

Lynn Sr. enters Leni's room to find her sorting her clothes. She explains she was going to sort the homework closet, but remembered she hates homework, and all of her clothes. Lynn Sr. reminds her he has to keep them on task and watch Lily, but is distracted by Luna rocking out instead of cleaning the windows and accidentally leaves Lily behind. As he tries to keep Luna on task, Lynn Sr. realizes too late he has left Lily behind as Lynn appears, practicing to be a sports announcer. At the same time, Clyde arrives at the house to pick up Lincoln for the virtual beach, but accidentally spoils Lincoln's plan. Lincoln breaks the fancy glasses to get out of chore day, but Lynn Sr. catches him in the act and has him work on yard work as punishment.

Act II[]

In the bathroom, Lisa readies the Zapmaster to demonstrate science to Lily. Luan knocks on the door, desperate to empty her bladder, but with Lisa busy, Luan is forced to relieve herself in the bushes. As Luan leaves, the Zapmaster fires, and Lisa turns back to see the bathroom destroyed and Lily seemingly missing.

Lincoln and Clyde are made to mow the lawn, with Lincoln intending to get out of lawn duty by having Lana modify the lawnmower to have high acceleration. They lose control while riding it and are chased by the police. Meanwhile, still trying to find Lily, Lynn Sr. enters Leni's room and finds Leni trying to order some clothes while Luna is cleaning the window while making music in the process. He joins in and they continue for 17 minutes before Rita calls his cell phone. In a desperate attempt to save his own face, Lynn Sr. lies to Rita and throws his cell phone in the toilet.

Lola and Lucy watch the movie in the basement, where Lucy explains to Lola the myth of Mesopotamian goat-serpent hybrids. Lola is soon convinced they are real when she notices the computer cord broken and ominous noises from the furnace. She tries to go upstairs to get new milkshakes, but the doorknob breaks, trapping the two. Lynn Sr. holds a family meeting asking where Lily went, and when Lisa explains she may have teleported Lily into another reality, the family decides to teleport one of Lana's pets into the same dimension. Wanting to protect Hops, Lana retreats into the basement, but they are also trapped.

Lincoln and Clyde are caught by Chief Wellington, who tries to take them to the police station for speeding. Chief Wellington ends up getting sidetracked when he receives a call that Milkshake Marty hijacked the Auntie Pam's food truck. As Lynn Sr. calls another meeting to explain he will find Lily and his missing children, Luan enters the basement to hide from Lynn's sportscasting, but is trapped too with Lynn.

Chief Wellington arrives at Auntie Pam's ice cream truck and is confronted by Milkshake Marty himself, disguised as Auntie Pam. Lincoln and Clyde see through the disguise and use the loudspeaker to ask the hijacker a trick question to reveal that it wasn't Auntie Pam, it was indeed Milkshake Marty. Chief Wellington captures Milkshake Marty and his gang and praises Lincoln and Clyde for saving the day, but has them mop the floors in order to pay for speeding.

Act III[]

At the Loud House, Lynn Sr. holds another meeting where he is updated on who has gone missing. Leni is distracted and finds new clothes online, to which Lynn Sr. exasperatedly tells her to find hand-me-downs in the attic. Before long, the kids find new clothes in the hand-me-downs, and go into the basement to find more. Meanwhile, Lincoln and Clyde are cleaning the floors, and decide to use Lincoln's original plan of messing up the mopping. It works, and Chief Wellington exasperatedly tells them to leave.

Lynn Sr. gets ready to tell Rita he has lost all their children when he hears his daughters screaming for help in the basement. He tries to save them by entering, but finds out too late that the doorknob isn't working. Lincoln and Clyde return to the Loud House, but find the house is a mess and no one is around. They assume that Milkshake Marty and his men have escaped jail and have killed the Louds. Back in the basement, Lola prepares to fight the supposed Mesopotamian monster and finds Lily along with the doorknob and chewed computer cord.

At the living room, Lincoln despairs believing he has caused his family to get killed. The rest of the family escape the basement, and after Lincoln confesses his actions, Lynn Sr. makes him clean up the entire house. However, the other sisters join in on the cleaning as Lynn decides to quit pretending she is a sportscaster.

Rita returns home to find a clean house and the rest of the family relaxing on the couch. After Lynn Sr. and the sisters lie Chore Day was uneventful, she wonders where Lincoln and Clyde are, and Lynn Sr. explains they are relaxing and enjoying the virtual beach.

Trivia[]

  • This episode, "The Macho Man with the Plan", and "The Banana Split Decision" are tied as the highest-viewed Really Loud House episodes of 2022.
  • This episode reveals the following:
    • If a Loud child does one of their chores poorly, one of the parents will do the chore for them out of frustration.
    • The town librarian has not shaved for forty years.
      • Since this fact reveals that the current town librarian is a man, this means that Librarian Wetta either stopped working as a librarian sometime prior to the events of this episode or doesn't exist in The Really Loud House.
    • Rita and Lynn Sr. once had a situation where the former was asked to trust the latter and ended up having to poop in the woods.
    • Lisa wants to influence another family member so they can become a scientist.
      • In this episode, she specifically targeted Lily. Lily would later reveal in "The Man with the Backup Plan" that she strives to become an astronaut, confirming that she has agreed to follow Lisa's ideal career.
    • Hops is the bravest of Lana's pets.
    • Clyde is a junior member at a quiche club.
    • Auntie Pam's does not serve cake.
  • The hat that Lily puts on while in Leni's room resembles Scoots' hat.
  • In real life, in addition to speeding, Lincoln and Clyde would also have been fined for driving a lawn mower, as lawn mowers are not road legal in Michigan.
  • The items served on Auntie Pam's ice cream truck:
    • Ice cream scoops (single, double, or triple) available in cups and cones
      • Vanilla bean
      • Double chocolate

      • This dish foreshadows the events of "The Banana Split Decision", which revolves around Lynn Sr. promising it to his kids if over half of them get good reviews on their parent-teacher conferences.
  • Lynn breaks the fourth wall in this episode by saying, "We'll be right back after these messages", immediately before an intermission.
  • This episode takes place in 2021, as Howard mentions that he and Harold began their forever story seventeen years prior, and it is later revealed in "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" that they met each other in 2004.
  • Irony:
    • Lynn Sr. claims that he can keep track of all of his kids, only to realize that besides Lily, Lincoln, Lucy, and Lola are also missing.
    • Lincoln's attempt to get out of chore day only resulted in him and Clyde being forced to do lawn work, and while at the police station, they both ended up being forced to clean the floors. He even ended up being forced to clean the house in the end because of the messes that his sisters left behind.
      • However, he did manage to escape his second punishment with his original plan.

References[]

  • The Chore Thing - the title of this episode is likely a reference to the 1985 romantic comedy road film, The Sure Thing.
  • Pablo Escobar - Pablo Ice Cream Bar, the dessert kingpin criminal that the Custard Gang ground up into a milkshake, is likely a pun on this late Colombian drug dealer.
  • Beef Wellington - Chief Wellington's name is likely a pun on this baked steak food dish.

Product placement[]

  • When Lucy prepares a milkshake in the kitchen, various brands of candy and sweets are visible:
  • Gold Medal Flossugar - When Milkshake Marty's henchmen hold Auntie Pam hostage, a container of this brand of cotton candy is visible in the background.

Errors[]

  • When Chief Wellington warns Lincoln and Clyde not to mess with Milkshake Marty, the banana in Auntie Pam's mouth is peeled. However, when Milkshake Marty tells his fake story to Chief Wellington, the banana in Auntie Pam's mouth has its peels still on it.
  • When Lynn says, "Dad has now lost not four, but five of his eleven children", the closed captions replace the word "not" with the number 4.
  • When Luan tells Lisa that she has to pee, the cuffs of her gloves are rolled up. When she tells Lisa that she is not trying to make a joke, the cuffs of her gloves are not rolled up. When Lisa explains that she is conducting a science experiment, only the cuff of Luan's left glove is rolled up.
