Plot[]

Dreaming of DJing at the Gatos halftime show, Carl goes undercover with Alexis and the school band!

Synopsis[]

Carl is DJing with a cardboard box in the cafeteria at Chavez Academy, and the only one cheering is Alexis. He asks Alexis what he's happy about, to which he tells Carl that the junior band will be performing at the halftime show of the Gatos game. Carl asks if he could be the headliner, but Alexis tells him he needs to be in the junior band in order to be on the field. Later, at the Casagrande apartment, Carl is in his room trying to play the bassoon when Sergio enters. He asks Carl what he's up to, and Carl shows him his plan that he'll launch into a DJ set during the halftime show. Sergio likes the idea and thinks it's a great opportunity to sell Carl's merchandise.

Later, Carl knocks on apartment 2B, and Alexis and Buttercup answer. He tells Alexis that he convinced him to join the junior band. Excited by the news, Alexis asks what instrument Carl will play, and he shows that he'll be playing the bassoon. He plays it, but Alexis and Buttercup cover their ears due to the sound. He tells Carl that he doesn't think the bassoon is the right instrument for him. He then offers his tuba to Carl, but the tuba is much heavier than Carl thought it was, and he ends up stumbling backwards and falling. Alexis tells Carl he'll find the right instrument for him. At school, Alexis' bandmates demonstrated different instruments to Carl, like the trombone, saxophone, and drums, but none worked out. The junior band shows Carl the last instrument left, which is the triangle. He gives the triangle a try and is good at it.

At the Gatos game, the junior band is getting ready in the dressing room, and Carl has arrived and explains why he was late. Alexis tells him they're on in five. He tells Alexis he'll be right back to fix his hair. Carl exits the stadium and takes off his hat, revealing that Sergio is inside. He gives Sergio a map to the control booth and waits for him to give the cue. Carl enters the dressing room again while Alexis is telling the band that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The referee's whistle goes off, and the bands go out on the field. Sergio enters the control room and sees the announcer. Sergio pulls out an ant farm and dumps it out just as he was about to bite into an Italian beef hoagie. The announcer gets attacked by the ants and dragged out of the room. Sergio goes to the controls and looks out onto the field. As the band is about to start playing, a bee starts bothering Carl. He starts swinging his triangle striker at the bee, not realizing that from where Sergio is, it looks like he's waving three times. Thinking that's the signal, Sergio takes out a CD and cranks up the volume. DJ Carl appears on the jumbo screen just as the show is about to begin. Realizing Sergio started too soon, Carl waves at him to stop, but thinks that's the queue for the fog machine. The fog machine rolls up and blasts Carl away, disorienting the rest of the band. The band ends up in a pile as the fog clears, and the referee tells them to get off the field.

Back in the dressing room, the band is still disappointed when Carl arrives. Clara isn't happy that he ruined their performance. Carl explains that he wanted to broaden his audience but never intended to derail your show. Alexis tells him it's over, and he and his bandmates walk away. Carl tells them it's not and tells them they're going back on the field to perform. He also tells them he'll figure out a way to get the band back on the field. Outside the player's locker rooms, Carl appears and throws his triangle between the door handles. The players tried to get out, but Carl blocked the door. Out in the field, the crowd is getting impatient. The ref tells the band to buy him some time while he finds the players. The band starts playing, and the crowd loves them. Meanwhile, the soccer players manage to kick the door open. They see that Carl was the one who locked them in and chase after him onto the field. Sergio catches up with Carl while he is being chased by the announcer. He throws the DJ Carl merchandise at the announcer and players, and it takes them all down. The band finishes their song; Carl joins and chimes his triangle out of breath. Alexis thanks Carl for saving the day.

The next day, DJ Carl is performing in the park when a passerby recognizes him from the Gatos game. She started chanting, which got the attention of everyone else in the park. Carl is fine with this and starts playing his triangle, as long as the rest of the band supports him.
