"The Weakest Ink" is the eighteenth episode of the eighth season and the three-hundred-fifty-first episode of The Loud House.

Plot[]

To commemorate their video hitting 10,000[sic] streams, the Moon Goats agree to all get matching tattoos.

Synopsis[]

The Moon Goats are holding a rehearsal session in the Loud House garage in preparation for the Beats in the Heat Festival. After ending their session, Sam gets a notification on her phone revealing that their video of "Play with My Band" has just surpassed 100,000 streams. Seeing how they have accomplished this momentous occasion, Luna reveals that they all made a pinky promise to get matching Moon Goats tattoos on their wrists. With the plan set, Luna tells her bandmates that she'll set an appointment for them at the tattoo parlor at 4:00 PM tomorrow, while they will ask their parents for permission to get tattoos tonight.

The next day, Luna arrives at The Tat Shack and tries to book an appointment for four people at 4:00 PM. Suddenly, Chunk, who is revealed to be getting a tattoo, greets Luna. When Luna reveals that she and her bandmates are going to get their first tattoos, Chunk reminisces about getting his first tattoos. However, after Chunk reveals that the procedures of getting them were very painful (and after demonstrating that he can eject his soul from his body in order to avoid feeling the pain while getting a tattoo on his back), Luna becomes instilled with fear and quickly cancels her appointment so she can leave. Later, Luna is telling her siblings on what she can do, as she can't break her pinky promise, but states that she can't handle the pain of getting a tattoo with her very low pain threshold. At first, Luna hopes that Lynn Sr. will prevent her from getting a tattoo, but after being told by her bandmates about their plan, Lynn Sr. gives his full permission (as he reveals that he plans to get a Doo Dads tattoo himself). Because of this, Lincoln and Lynn make the suggestion that Luna should toughen up, and that they can help her by subjecting her to several painful situations in order to build up her pain tolerance.

Later, the siblings contribute in different ways to help Luna increase her pain tolerance. This ranges from Lynn throwing a barrage of dodgeballs at her, Lucy tightening a corset around her body, Lana unleashing an army of fire ants onto her, and Leni plucking a stray hair from her eyebrows while telling her to go to her happy place. Unfortunately, none of these attempts manage to help Luna, as she still can't handle the idea of feeling immense pain. Suddenly, Luna gets the idea that she can recommend something else for her bandmates to get. However, when she meets up with them, they reveal that they had already gotten their tattoos. Arriving back home, Luna begins to bemoan about her situation, when suddenly, Lily arrives with tattoos all over her body. When Lincoln reveals that they're temporary tattoos that can come off with water, Luna suddenly gets an idea.

Later, at the Beats in the Heat Festival, Luna shows her bandmates her tattoo. At that moment, Mayor Davis announces to the attendees to participate in the festival's watersports. This is bad news for Luna, as water is sure to wash off her tattoo. After dodging the attendees throwing water balloons at her, she encounters Davis, who sprays her with a spray bottle, causing her tattoo to start running. Luna quickly fixes it up by using some purple face paint. Suddenly, Davis tells the Moon Goats that she wants them to participate in the festival's boat race. Luna tries to back out, but Davis makes them compete anyway. During the race, Scoots, after zooming by on a jet ski, crashes into some rocks and falls into the water. Scoots begs someone to save her, as she can't swim, to which Luna, after seeing her bandmates gives off excuses on why they can't help, jumps in to save her. After bringing Scoots back to the shore, Luna's bandmates discover her tattoo running. This causes Luna to confess that she didn't go through with getting her tattoo, as she states that she couldn't handle the thought of how painful the procedure of getting it would be. Suddenly, Sam, Sully and Mazzy reveal that their tattoos are fake as well, revealing that they too are just as scared about the pain as Luna is. Because of this, Luna asks what they could do to celebrate their 100,000th stream, to which Sam suggests that they get matching friendship bracelets after seeing a stand selling them.

After getting their new friendship bracelets, the Moon Goats begin to perform for the festival. Suddenly, Lynn Sr. reveals that he got his Doo Dads tattoo, and briefly shows that he's still reeling from the pain.

Trivia[]

  • This episode uses the same title card music as "Tough Guise".
  • Lincoln appears on the title card as the skull on the sign outside the tattoo parlor.
  • The Moon Goats's video of "Play with My Band" uses recycled footage from "Band Together".
  • This episode has a similar premise to the episode "Music to My Fears", which is also about Luna lying to her bandmates out her own personal paranoia.
  • Luna previously brought up getting a tattoo in the Season 4 episode "Snoop's On", but it turned out to be a fabricated lie in order to get back at Lincoln, Leni and Luan for secretly reading her diary. In this episode, Luna nearly gets a tattoo, but she backed out at the last minute, being unable to handle to thought of how painful the procedure would be.
  • This episode reveals the following:
    • Mazzy's preferred idea of celebrating her band reaching 100,000 streams (if she didn't get outnumbered by her bandmates suggesting they get matching tattoos) was having each of their heads shaved at Dairyland in front of a live audience.
    • Chunk's very first tattoo is the heart and crossbones on his arm, which symbolizes his love for rock and roll.
    • Chunk has a tattoo of his mother on his chest.
    • Luna has an extremely low pain threshold.
    • Luna's paperclip earrings are clip-ons, and she passed out during the procedure of getting her ears pierced in order to wear them.
    • Lana owns a jar of fire ants.
    • Leni's happy place is the mall on Black Friday.
    • Scoots cannot swim (likely due to her handicap).
    • Sully is scared of Scoots.
  • Excluding Chunk, Lynn Sr. was the only character who actually went through with the procedure of getting a tattoo.
  • The two people who are shown to have commented on the Moon Goats' video of "Play with My Band" are Sadie Figueroa and Darin McGowan.
  • Sully breaks the fourth wall interrupting Mazzy's fantasy sequence by pushing it out of the way and telling her "Still not happening."
  • Foreshadowing: Luna's bandmates come up with excuses to avoid diving into the water to rescue Scoots (with Sully's being most valid), hinting that, like Luna, they were also afraid to get tattoos themselves and didn't want to get their fake tattoos wet.
  • Innuendo: Chunk's soul comes out of his body in order prevent himself from feeling pain when getting a tattoo.
  • Irony: Luna believed that her bandmates had the courage to actually get their tattoos, but in the end, they reveal that they were fake, as they too could not handle the thought of how painful the procedure to get them would be.

References[]

  • The Weakest Ink - The title of this episode is a pun of the term “the weakest link”, which describes the least contributing member of a collective group.

Errors[]

  • The premise of this episode states that the Moon Goats' video for "Play with My Band" hit 10,000 streams, but in the actual episode, it hit 100,000 streams.
  • Luna tells her friends she would set the appointment for tomorrow, only to reveal she went to the Tat Shack to set up the appointment the following day for the day after that.
  • When Luna falls forward after Lucy tightens her corset, the animation of Luna's sweat drops flying off her head can still be seen in the air for a brief second.
