Plot[]

Lincoln and friends need to get school back to normal when Principal Ramirez implements new fishy rules.

Synopsis[]

S7E09B Good morning, kids

Principal Ramirez implements new changes.

Arriving to the middle school, Lincoln explains to the viewers that, at this point, he's become familiar with all the obstacles he encounters and knows how to get around them. Suddenly, when he enters the building, he realizes that it is freezing cold and encased with ice and snow. When Lincoln asks his friends why it's so cold in the building, Ramirez, on ice skates, arrives and reveals that she's implementing some new changes to the school, as she's now taking the advice of a leading education specialist from Sweden named Astrid Bjorklundson, who has created a system that guarantees student success called the Astrid Method.

However, it becomes very evident that the Astrid Method isn't helpful to the students at all. Apart from finding it difficult to think straight under freezing temperatures, Lincoln and his friends discover that they have to start school at 6:00 AM to take part in mindful yoga sessions, the lunch menu has been changed to consist of nothing but raw salted fishes, and that they must eat their fish while exercising at the same time. Unable to handle these new rules, Lincoln tells his friends that they need to convince Ramirez to revoke the Astrid Method and get things back to normal. Later, the gang approaches Meryl, who hates the Astrid Method as well, saying that Ramirez no longer lets her take bathroom breaks (with Astrid claiming that they're disruptive to administrative work), thus forcing her to use a toilet as her desk chair. At that moment, Ramirez exits her office, and the gang attempts to convince her that the Astrid Method isn't working, but Ramirez dismisses them, saying that they still need time to adjust, and believes that their suffering will help them out in the future. Not willing to give up, Lincoln says that they need a new plan, but when Clyde mentions that Ramirez only listens to Astrid now, Stella then gets an idea.

Sometime later, Stella has decided to disguise herself as Astrid, while using Zach's glasses as a final touch. With her disguise complete, the gang begins to initiate their plan. While Ramirez eagerly waits for Astrid's new video to drop, the gang secretly plugs one of their cameras to Ramirez's laptop in order to intercept the broadcast. The moment Astrid's video starts, the laptop instead broadcasts Stella telling her "viewers" that the Astrid Method doesn't work after all and urges them to change things back to the way they were. Falling for this trick, Ramirez agrees to change the school back to normal by the next day. However, just before the gang can bask in their success, they suddenly run into Ramirez, who reveals that she's going to Hazeltucky in order to attend a book signing hosted by Astrid so she can ask her why she would publish a successful book despite the Astrid Method being proven unsuccessful. Fearing their ruse will be exposed should the two meet, Lincoln says that they simply need to prevent them from meeting each other.

Later, in Hazeltucky, the gang arrives to the bookstore where Astrid is signing autographs. Upon their arrival, they initiate their plan. Lincoln, Zach, and Rusty drag Astrid outside so they can get some help on how to do her power pose, while Stella fills in for Astrid. Both factors attempt to stall for as long as they could, but Astrid, after having taught enough to Lincoln, Zach, and Rusty, enters the building just as Ramirez is about to leave after Stella spouts off nonsensical statements to her questions. Realizing there are two Astrids present, Astrid proves herself to be the real deal when she manages to pull off her power pose flawlessly, while Stella fails miserably.

S7E09B Thank you for your honest feedback

Astrid learns her method isn't meant for everyone.

With their ruse exposed, the gang admits to Ramirez that they tricked her into discontinuing the Astrid Method, as all it did was make things difficult for them. Because of this, Ramirez proclaims that they will resume using the Astrid Method the following Monday, much to their dismay. Suddenly, Astrid stops her, saying that one of the key components to her method being successful is student happiness; since Lincoln and his friends aren't happy with the things they experienced, her method doesn't work for them, to which she thanks the gang for their honest opinions. As a result, Ramirez agrees to not reinstate the Astrid Method, thus allowing the middle school to stay in its normal state.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first episode in Season 7 to use the standard title card music.
    • Furthermore, it is also the latest premiere episode in production order within a season to use this music on its title card.
  • The title of this episode refers to the fact that the middle school spends a majority of the episode in a cool, freezing state.
  • The premise of this episode is similar to that of the Casagrandes episode "Strife Coach", as they both involve school principals changing up their schools after getting advice from another individual. Unlike the aforementioned episode, where Ronnie Anne and her friends realized that all the things they went through actually helped them out in the long run, Lincoln and his friends did not improve from the changes Ramirez implemented in any capacity.
  • This episode reveals the following:
    • Principal Ramirez can ice skate.
    • Rusty needs at least 2 hours to let his conditioner untangle his hair.
    • Royal Woods Middle School has Pizza Wednesday.
    • The Action News Team's presentations usually consist of 20,000 slides, with "bladder-friendly" presentations being only 10,000 slides.
      • This seems to allude to the length of Lincoln's 876-slide presentation that he showed to Principal Ramirez in "Schooled!".
  • This episode implies that Rusty has never seen a penguin before, as he confuses one for a pigeon wearing a tuxedo.
  • Astrid Bjorklundson's advice and the new school rules Ramirez implements based on them:
    • "Temperatures as cold as ice will help the children real nice" - Has the temperature in the building set to freezing-cold.
    • "To aid the students' aspirations, begin the day with meditations" - Has the students start school at 6:00 AM so they can partake in mindful yoga sessions
    • "If for a test you are crammin', have a plate of salted salmon" - Has the lunch menu consist of nothing but salted fishes
    • "Combining lunch with moderate cardio gets the brain working extra hard-io" - Has the students do gym class and eat the aforementioned fish at the same time
    • "Present pain leads to future gain" - Doesn't inspire a rule, but Ramirez uses this statement to defend her decision of using the Astrid Method
  • Andrew is depicted in his cat onesie from "The Hurt Lockers".
  • Cartoon physics:
    • Lynn plows through three people, resulting in their clothes being swapped around.
    • Stella molds Zach's glasses into the shape of Astrid's glasses without using any extreme heat.
  • Innuendo: Much to the Action News Team's disgust, Meryl uses a toilet as a desk chair; because, according to Meryl, "Astrid said potty breaks are disruptive to administrative work."
    • This also means that Meryl has to relieve herself publicly inside her office.
  • Irony:
    • Despite Principal Ramirez punishing Coach Keck for irresponsible use of the school's fundings in "Cheer Pressure", she is shown to be no better by running the school's air conditioning at full power.
    • The Action News Team's plan to eliminate Principal Ramirez's use of Astrid's methods succeeds in a different way from the group's intention. (Instead of sabotaging Ramirez's view of Astrid, Astrid instead learns that her methods do not work for everyone.)
